External & façade joints in North End, Essex
Sealing brickwork movement joints, render, cladding and façade joints for homes and businesses in North End and across Essex. Fully insured, ARBOMaster approved and guaranteed for a year.
- Leaking joints around cladding and façade panels
- Damp patches traced to an open external joint
- Brick movement joints where the sealant has split
Should I try it myself first?
If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.
Some jobs are best left to a professional: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas call for the right materials, safe access and experience.
About our external mastic in North End
Getting the depth right is half the job. Backing rod controls how deep the sealant goes and keeps it off the back of the joint, leaving it bonded to two faces so it can move with the wall. We work on façade panels, concrete & block and brickwork movement joints, and the jobs we see most are leaking joints around cladding and façade panels and joints pointed up with cement by mistake.
Outside joints can only be sealed when they’re dry, so work in North End is booked around the forecast. Let us know about access to every wall, plus any garages or outbuildings.
Every job comes with a 12-month guarantee, wherever you are in Essex.

What the job involves on each surface
Render joints
Rendered walls have joints at beads, openings and changes of material. We reseal them with a flexible exterior sealant that suits the render colour.
Concrete and blockwork
The face of concrete or block is often dusty, so cleaning and priming matter. A primer goes on where the product requires one.

Common questions in North End
Is there a guarantee on external mastic in North End?
All our work, in North End and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We are also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.
Is North End in your area for external mastic?
Yes, North End is within the area we cover. We work across London and the South East. You can phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and tell us what needs doing.
Is it OK to seal over old sealant?
No, because it fails. We remove every bit of old sealant first, so the new sealant bonds properly.
Do the sealants smell?
Sometimes, a little. Any smell clears as the sealant cures.
Do you have insurance?
Yes. Mr Mastic is fully insured, with over 20 years’ experience in sealant work.
Do you take out the old sealant first?
Yes, always, and completely. New silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so the joint is cleaned back first.
Will you leave a mess?
Not at all. The area is protected while we work and cleaned up afterwards.
What should I tell you?
A short description and the location, plus pictures if you have them. If we need more, we’ll ask.
Aftercare tips
Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:
- Walk round the building once a year and look at the joints
- Never let anyone fill a movement joint with mortar
- Act on the first splits you see
- Keep high-pressure jets off the joints
Follow the cure time we give you before the joint is knocked or disturbed. The surface skins over quickly, but full cure takes longer.
Water getting behind cladding or render can go unnoticed for a long time. When it finally shows inside, the joint may have been open for years so early resealing is worth it.
Signs you need external mastic in North End
Weeds, moss and debris in a joint are a sign the sealant has gone. Dirt and roots then trap moisture in the joint and speed up the damage.
Any of these means the joints need attention:
- Rain getting behind render or cladding at a joint
- Gaps where render, brick and frames meet
- Failed sealant between panels on a façade
- Sealant that has lost its bond to the brick or render
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as The Flitch Green Academy, its movement joints, gutters and trims need looking after like any other building’s.
What your quote should include
- Who does the work, and how experienced they are
- Which sealant they’ll use, and why
- When the joint can take water or movement
- What guarantee comes with the work
What happens if it’s left?
Done well, a resealed joint is a neat, straight line that suits the wall. A rushed bead with no backing looks untidy and does not last, so it pays to do it properly once. Older cottages and farmhouses around North End can have timber floors and frames, where water from a failed joint can cause rot if it’s left.
Rather than a set price list, we look at what your job involves: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. You will know the price before we begin.

External mastic in North End: local notes
The South East is one of the drier parts of the UK, yet outdoor joints still have to be sealed dry, so jobs are booked with the weather in mind.
In the older streets around Church of St Andrew, an extension built onto an older house moves differently, and the joint between them takes the strain.
North End is about 7 miles south-west of Braintree, in Essex. Anywhere in CM6, we can carry out external mastic at your property. Across Essex, we cover 644 places, North End among them. Chelmsford is on our list too, around 8 miles away.
Our applicators cover all of CM6 for external mastic. We cover properties on Bennett's Lane, Mill Road and Black Chapel Lane. We also cover the places around North End: Causeway End (1 mile north-east), Little Dunmow (1 mile north), Ford End (1 mile south-east), Felsted (1 mile north-east) and Brookstreet (1 mile north). What happens on the day
There isn’t much for you to do on the day. Show us the job and we’ll take it from there. The job generally takes a few hours for a handful of joints, longer for a whole elevation, including the tidy-up. Somewhere as small as North End, access is often the only tricky part. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.
- We start by walking round the building and agreeing the joints and the access.
- We cut out the old mastic and rake out anything in the joint.
- Joint faces are cleaned back and primed if the sealant needs it.
- We fit closed-cell backing rod to control the depth.
- The exterior sealant is applied, tooled and checked along its length.
Before we arrive
- Clear the area around the work
- For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
- Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height
