Gadebridge External Mastic
We cover Gadebridge for sealing brickwork movement joints, render, cladding and façade joints. Old material cut out, joints cleaned and sealed neatly and every job guaranteed for a year.
- Failed sealant between panels on a façade
- Weeds or debris growing in open joints
- Sealant that has lost its bond to the brick or render
External mastic in Gadebridge, done properly
Ground-floor and low-level joints are straightforward to reach. Where joints are higher up, tell us about the building when you get in touch and we’ll confirm what access is needed. If you have movement joints filled with mortar instead of sealant and plants rooting in failed movement joints, we can help, whatever the surface.
Homes around Gadebridge range from older cottages to newer houses, with walls and rooflines of every type. Older homes need their gutter and trim joints kept tight, newer ones their movement joints.
The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything is not right with it, ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email.

Should I try it myself first?
Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.
If you’ve already had a go yourself, that’s fine. We remove it and do the joint properly.
What happens on the day
At the end, we look at the finished work together and explain the cure time. The visit itself usually takes a few hours to a few days, depending on the length of joint and the access, depending on the amount of work. Parking around Gadebridge is usually easier than in a town centre, but mention any lanes, gates or long drives. For outside work, side access and the height of the joints help us plan.
- First we look over the joints with you, agree which to renew and talk through access.
- The old mastic and anything lodged in the joint is removed.
- The joint faces are cleaned and primed where the sealant needs it.
- We push in closed-cell backing rod so the sealant is the right depth and bonds to the sides only.
- A flexible exterior sealant is applied and tooled in a colour to suit the wall.
Getting ready for the visit
- Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
- Keep children and pets away from the work area
- Tell us if parking is tricky

Questions from Gadebridge
Should the sealant in an older Gadebridge home be renewed?
If it hasn’t been replaced for some years, it’s generally worth it. Sealant is a maintenance item: how long it lasts depends on use, cleaning and exposure.
Can you help a landlord with a rental near Hemel Hempstead station?
Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for. Just ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with the address and what needs doing, and we’ll send you a clear quote.
Are you insured?
Yes. We are fully insured for domestic and commercial work.
What is backing rod for?
Backing rod controls the sealant depth and keeps it off the back of the joint. That way it bonds to the two sides only and can stretch.
Which products do you use?
Each joint gets the product that suits it. Movement, water and weather all affect the choice.
What do you need from me for a quote?
Where the job is, what the problem is and roughly how big it is. If you can, email a few pictures.
How do you reach high-level joints?
That depends on how high the joints are and the ground below. Ground-floor joints are simple; for higher work, tell us about the building and we will confirm what’s needed.
Do you work for hotels and businesses?
Yes. We work in offices, washrooms, hotels and other commercial premises. Working times can be discussed when we quote.
What the job involves on each surface
Cladding and façade panels
Cladding and façade panels are normally separated by sealed joints. Each joint gets a sealant that suits the panel and its movement.
Copings and trims
A failed coping joint lets water into the top of the wall. Sealing them early saves the wall below.
What happens if it’s left?
An open joint keeps letting water into the wall with every downpour. In cold weather, frost can damage wet brick and render around the joint, so the problem grows beyond the joint itself. Homes in smaller places like Gadebridge can face more weather, and failed outside joints let damp into walls. Inside, a split seal lets water into floors and panels just as it would anywhere.
Every job is a little different, so we quote each one individually. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all make a difference, and we will explain the quote if you ask.

How to look after the new joints
Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:
- Act on the first splits you see
- Deal with leaking gutters that soak the joints below
- Check external joints each spring
- Never let anyone fill a movement joint with mortar
Do not paint over the new sealant unless we’ve said the product is paintable. Many exterior sealants aren’t designed to be painted.
Small splits are the time to act. At that stage it’s a simple cut out and reseal with no damage behind it to deal with.
Walls and rooflines in Gadebridge
Gadebridge is part of Hemel Hempstead, one of the post-war new towns. Many homes date from the post-war decades and were built in phases, so whole streets can have gutters, trims and wall joints reaching the end of their life together. Compared with the north and west, the South East gets less rain, though outdoor sealant still has to go onto a dry joint, so the forecast decides the day.
Schools such as Galley Hill Primary School and Nursery are buildings too, and larger buildings have long runs of movement joint that eventually need resealing. For an older house near a landmark such as St Alban's Church, an extension built onto an older house moves differently, and the joint between them takes the strain. Rented homes near Hemel Hempstead station change hands often, and outside joints that have cracked can let damp into a rental, so check them between lets.

What we cannot put right
Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what sealant can’t fix:
- Cracking across the wall rather than at a joint
- Movement that is more than a sealant joint can take
- Render that is blown, hollow or coming away
Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 464 0079 or email us and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.
