External mastic for Crampmoor homes and businesses

External mastic in Crampmoor

We are ARBOMaster approved applicators, and each external joint gets a sealant suited to it. Porous or awkward surfaces are primed where the sealant needs it, and we do not skip that step. If you have brick movement joints where the sealant has split and joints where the bead has come unstuck, we can help.

External sealant needs dry, clean surfaces, so work around Crampmoor is planned for dry weather. Tell us about access to all sides of the building, including outbuildings and garages.

There’s a 12-month guarantee on every job.

How to look after the new joints

Aftercare is simple:

  • Point out the joints to other trades
  • Have failed joints looked at early
  • Walk round the building once a year and look at the joints
  • Keep water from gutters off the wall

Don’t let soil, plants or ivy build up against the new joints. Damp material against the sealant shortens its life.

Once a joint can’t move, the wall finds another way, often as cracks near the joint. Catch it early and you reduce the risk.

What we do, step by step

All our tools and materials come with us in the van, so you do not need to buy or prepare anything. Once we’ve agreed what’s being done, the area is protected and the work begins. It normally takes anything from a few hours to several days, depending on the building. Somewhere as small as Crampmoor, access is often the only tricky part. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. First we look over the joints with you, agree which to renew and talk through access.
  2. Old sealant and any debris are cut and raked out.
  3. We clean both faces of the joint and prime them where the product calls for it.
  4. Closed-cell backing rod is fitted to set the depth and stop three-sided bonding.
  5. A flexible exterior sealant is applied and tooled in a colour to suit the wall.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
  • Mention any parking rules near the property

Advice

What affects the quote in Crampmoor

We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:

  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • The type of sealant required
  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • Access and height

Some things make a job bigger or smaller: the old material and how easily it comes out, any mould to treat, and whether we need extra access for height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

Helping us quote

What to tell us when you ask for a quote:

  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel

We do not publish a price list, as no two jobs are quite the same. Instead, we give you a clear price for your job. To arrange one, call 0345 464 0079 or email us.

Your questions about external mastic in Crampmoor

Can you do external mastic in Crampmoor?

Yes. Our work covers London and the South East, and Crampmoor is part of that. You can ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and tell us what needs doing, and we will give you a clear quote.

Do you cover smaller places like Crampmoor?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Is it messy?

No. The area is protected while we work and cleaned up afterwards.

Where are you based?

Our base is Crawley, with over 20 years’ experience. Our area covers South East England, London and Scotland.

What is backing rod for?

That’s backing rod, a closed-cell foam. It stops the sealant going in too deep and bonding to three sides, which would stop it stretching.

Can tenants book the work?

We are happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Get your landlord’s agreement first.

Should I point up the gap in my brickwork?

No. Mortar locks the joint solid, so the movement cracks the wall elsewhere. It needs a flexible sealant over backing rod.

Can you seal joints between render and window frames?

Yes. Where different materials meet is one of the most common joints we seal. We use a flexible sealant suited to both surfaces, primed where needed.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and doesn’t move well, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

Common problems we fix in Crampmoor

Joints sealed without backing rod, or far too deep, rarely last. If the sealant sticks to the back as well as the sides, it can’t stretch and rips as the joint opens.

Most people get in touch after spotting something like this:

  • Failed seals between different materials
  • Weeds or debris growing in open joints
  • Movement joints with cracked, split or missing sealant
  • Movement joints filled with mortar instead of sealant

Managing a site like Cupernham Infant School? Then movement joints, cladding joints and gutters on larger buildings need the same care as a house’s.

Before booking anyone

  • Who does the work, and how experienced they are
  • Are they insured?
  • Is VAT in the price?
  • Is the old sealant removed completely?

10 questions to ask before booking

Crampmoor buildings and the weather

Historic houses like Mottisfont Abbey (about 4.4 miles north-west) are a reminder that the area around Crampmoor has older buildings as well as new. In older buildings, older walls and rooflines need a sealant that moves with them and suits the material. London and the South East are among the drier parts of the UK, yet outdoor joints still have to be sealed dry, so jobs are booked with the weather in mind.

If you live in an older home near St Swithun's Church, older walls, gutters and the joints where extensions meet them need a flexible sealant. If you let a flat or house near Romsey station, split movement joints are easy to miss on a rental until damp shows inside.

Crampmoor is about 1 mile north-east of Romsey, in Hampshire. We carry out external mastic for householders, landlords and businesses in Crampmoor, as part of our work across Hampshire. Landlords, agents and businesses in Crampmoor

Whether it’s one flat or a portfolio, you get the same standard of work: the old material taken out, careful preparation and a 12-month guarantee.

Businesses can book us for washrooms, kitchens, offices and more. For commercial premises, we can talk through working times when we quote.

Leave it or put it right?

Running new sealant over the old bead rarely lasts. The new layer cannot bond properly to old, weathered material, so we always take the old sealant out. Older cottages and farmhouses around Crampmoor can have timber floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.

Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: the amount of work, how we reach it and what it needs, plus any working-time requirements on site. Call for a quick quote and we will go through it with you.
