Bathroom resealing in Woodstock

Your questions about bathroom resealing in Woodstock

Do you cover smaller places like Woodstock?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Can you help a landlord with a rental near Hanborough station?

Yes, we work for landlords and agents. You can call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with the address and a few details, and we will give you a fixed price before work begins.

Where are you based?

We’re based in Crawley, and we work across South East England, London and Scotland.

Can you get rid of the black mould in my sealant?

Yes. Mould inside the bead rarely cleans out for good, so we cut it out, treat the joint and reseal with anti-fungal silicone.

Do you have insurance?

Yes, we’re fully insured for domestic and commercial work.

Is white the only colour available?

White, clear and a range of colours are available. On a worktop we colour-match where the joint shows.

How long does it take to reseal a bath or shower?

That depends on the number of joints and the state of the old sealant. For most single baths or showers, allow a couple of hours.

Can new silicone go straight over the old?

No, and it’s one of the main reasons reseals fail. The old joint is stripped, cleaned and resealed from scratch.

How we handle bathroom resealing in Woodstock

Homes in Woodstock have the same weak spots as anywhere else: bath edges, tray joints, basin backs and kitchen upstands. Every joint is cut out, cleaned and left dry before it’s resealed. We work on kitchen worktops & upstands, shower trays & enclosures and wet rooms, and people most often call us about a bead that has pulled away from the tiles and water escaping at the shower enclosure.

Homes around Woodstock range from older cottages to more recent houses. In older homes, walls and floors can move a little more, so the right flexible sealant matters.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you’re covered after we’ve gone.

What affects the quote in Woodstock

Every job gets its own quote. This is what makes a difference:

  • Working hours on commercial sites
  • How many areas need sealing
  • Whether the work is at height
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with

No two jobs are quite the same, so we quote each one individually. Size, access and the product the joint needs all play a part, and we will explain the quote if you ask.

What to tell us for a quote

To make quoting easier, let us know:

  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work
  • Roughly how big the job is
  • Whether it’s a home or a business

A good description makes for an accurate quote. Tell us where the job is, what’s wrong and how much there is, and email photos if that is easy.

Surface by surface

Kitchen worktops & upstands

Water behind a laminate worktop can make the edge swell. A sound joint along the back edge stops that, as long as the worktop itself is firmly fixed.

Shower trays & enclosures

If a tray moves underfoot, new silicone won’t last. Movement is checked before anything is resealed, and if the tray needs refixing, we’ll say so.

What happens if it’s left?

Fresh sealant smartens a bathroom or kitchen with very little disruption, which helps when a home is being let or put on the market. A smeared, uneven DIY bead does the opposite, and it’s harder to put right later. In a smaller place like Woodstock, wherever a wall is exposed, a failed outside joint is a real source of damp. Indoors, a failed seal lets water into floors and panels as it would anywhere.

A few things move the cost up or down: the old material and how easily it comes out, whether mould needs treating, and whether we need extra access for height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Woodstock

Woodstock has hotels and guest accommodation nearby. Hotel bathrooms are part of our work as well as homes, and can be done room by room. Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings.

Letting a property close to Hanborough station? Then a reseal between tenants is a quick way to make the bathroom and kitchen look cared for. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Woodstock Church of England Primary School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes. In the older streets around Church of St Mary Magdalene, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

Aftercare tips

No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. Our tips:

  • Keep an eye on the corners, where splits start
  • Give the silicone its full cure time
  • Dry the bead with a towel now and then
  • Use gentle cleaners on the silicone

In a kitchen, do not let water sit along the back of the worktop and keep hot pans away from the silicone. The drier the joint stays, the longer it lasts.

Mould that starts as a few spots spreads through the bead. Once it’s deep in the silicone, cleaning generally will not remove it, and nearby grout often goes the same way. Replacing the sealant early keeps the job small.

How the visit works

You do not need to clear the whole room or building, only the area right around the joints. Everything nearby is protected, and the job takes two to three hours for a typical bath, depending on how much old sealant there is for a typical job. Parking around Woodstock is generally easier than in a town centre, but mention any lanes, gates or long drives. If the job is outside, tell us about side access and how high the joints are.

  1. First, each joint is checked for movement and signs of water.
  2. The old silicone is cut out completely, along with the film it leaves on the tiles.
  3. The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
  4. With the joint dry, and any bath loaded with water, a single bead of anti-fungal silicone is applied.
  5. The bead is tooled smooth and you are told the cure time, usually around 24 hours.

Preparing for the visit

  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
  • Let us know about parking restrictions

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.
