Wolvercote questions

Do you work for landlords with property near Oxford Parkway station?

Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for, and several properties can go on one quote. Just call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with the address and what needs doing, and we will send you a clear quote.

Will you come out to Wolvercote?

Yes. Wolvercote is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

How much does bathroom resealing cost in Wolvercote?

We don’t publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: its size, the old material, access and the product needed. You’ll get a clear quote before we start.

Can you quote for more than one area?

Yes. Tell us about everything you’d like done and we’ll quote it together.

How long does the new silicone need before I use the shower?

The surface skins over fairly quickly, but the bead needs longer to cure right through. Keep water off it for around 24 hours, or follow the cure time we give you.

Can new silicone go straight over the old?

No. New silicone won’t bond to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. We always take the old sealant out completely.

Is there any odour?

Some sealants have a smell while they cure, which fades as it sets. Ventilation helps.

Can you work on commercial sites?

Yes. We have worked for hotels, offices and other businesses.

How we handle bathroom resealing in Wolvercote

Sealant is the soft line between a bath, shower or worktop and the wall. Once it cracks or goes mouldy, water starts to find its way through and into the wall or floor. Our team cut the old bead out completely and lay a new one in anti-fungal sanitary silicone. We work on baths, shower trays & enclosures and sinks & splashbacks, and people most often call us about black mould in the silicone that won’t clean off and a reseal done over the top of the old bead.

In a village or hamlet like Wolvercote, homes are often older cottages and farmhouses alongside a few newer houses. Movement in older walls and floors tends to show first as cracked grout or split sealant.

Each job carries a 12-month guarantee, large or small.

Should I try it myself first?

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

When something else is needed

New sealant can’t fix everything, and we’ll tell you before any work starts. It will not solve:

  • A tray that rocks until it’s re-bedded
  • Water coming from the plumbing rather than the joint
  • Failed grout lines across the wall

If in doubt, ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll say what we think before you book.

What we do, step by step

On the day, there’s very little for you to do. Show us the job and we’ll take it from there. The work itself takes half a day or less for one room, longer when the kitchen is included, including the tidy-up. Somewhere like Wolvercote needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.

  1. First the area is protected and every bit of old sealant removed.
  2. The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
  3. The joint is left to dry, and baths are filled with water first.
  4. A single bead of anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied and tooled smooth.
  5. Finally we tidy up and explain the cure time before we leave.

Preparing for the visit

  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks

Most of the South East has hard water, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

Do you need bathroom resealing in Wolvercote?

Sealant laid on a damp, dusty or greasy joint never bonds properly. Soap residue, oils and leftover silicone film all get in the way, and a joint that looked fine soon begins to come away.

It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:

  • Shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop
  • New sealant laid over old sealant that is now lifting
  • Mouldy sealant that has gone black
  • Leaks into the floor or ceiling below

If you live in an older home near Church of St Peter, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

  • How hidden problems are handled
  • How the colour is chosen
  • Are they insured?

10 questions to ask before booking

Keeping the joints in good condition

No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. A few tips:

  • Wait for the cure time we give you
  • Check the joints every few months for splits or lifting
  • Squeegee the walls and tray after use
  • Clean with a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft cloth

Wipe up standing water along the worktop joint and keep hot pans off the bead. The drier the joint stays, the longer it lasts.

There’s no need to wait for a full refurbishment. Sealant is a maintenance item, like the paint on a window frame, and renewing it as soon as it fails protects everything around it.

How the job changes by surface

Baths

Baths move more than any other fitting, so it’s filled with water before the bead goes on. The joint is then laid with the bath at its lowest point.

Kitchen worktops & upstands

Worktop joints get wet and wiped every day. We seal them in a colour that suits the worktop, so the line doesn’t stand out.

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

We also work for businesses, from offices to washrooms and kitchens. For commercial premises, we can talk through working times when we quote.

From a single let to a portfolio, the work is the same standard: the old material taken out, careful preparation and a 12-month guarantee.
