Common questions in Wildridings
Should the sealant in an older Wildridings home be renewed?
If it hasn’t been replaced for some years, it’s generally worth it. Sealant is a maintenance item: how long it lasts depends on use, cleaning and exposure, and many homes in Wildridings may already be on their second or third set.
Is Wildridings within the area you cover?
Yes. Wildridings is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Can landlords and businesses book you?
Yes. We work for homeowners, landlords, letting agents, businesses and hotels across Bracknell Forest.
Do you hold any approvals?
Yes. We’re an ARBOMaster approved applicator.
Can I do it myself?
That depends on the joint. High-level, external movement and fire-rated joints are professional jobs, while a short indoor joint may be within reach.
How long will the resealing take?
It takes around two hours for one bath or shower, longer for a whole bathroom. We’ll confirm how long your job needs when we quote.
Do you do commercial work?
Yes. We work in offices, washrooms, hotels and other commercial premises, as well as homes. Working times can be discussed when we quote.
Is it OK to put new sealant on top of the old bead?
No, and it’s one of the main reasons reseals fail. We cut out all of the old sealant, clean the joint and start again.
Bathroom resealing for homes and businesses in Wildridings
Before a bath is sealed, it’s filled with water. The weight settles the bath to its lowest point, so the bead is not stretched the first time someone gets in. Quick jobs often leave it out, and it makes a real difference. We work on kitchen worktops & upstands, shower trays & enclosures and baths, and common reasons people get in touch are smears of silicone across the tiles and water escaping at the shower enclosure.
Homes around Wildridings range from older cottages to more recent houses. Older homes can move a little with the seasons, which is hard on tired sealant and rigid grout.

Common problems we fix in Wildridings
The wrong product fails fast. Decorators’ caulk and all-purpose sealants are not made for constant wetting, so they stain, crack or go mouldy before long. A bathroom joint needs anti-fungal sanitary silicone.
Signs it’s time to call us include:
- Lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt
- Black mould in the silicone that will not clean off
- Water getting behind the kitchen upstand
- Sealant that has split, shrunk or peeled away
Letting a property close to Bracknell station? Then mouldy sealant is one of the first things a new tenant notices, so it’s worth renewing between lets.
What your quote should include
- What insurance they hold
- How much experience the applicator has
- Whether all the old sealant comes out first
- Whether VAT is included
Why deal with it now?
A failed joint gets more costly to put right the longer it’s left. Water that gets behind a bath soaks into the floor, the panel and sometimes the ceiling below, turning a small job into a building repair. In a smaller place like Wildridings, wherever a wall is exposed, a failed outside joint is a real source of damp. Indoors, a failed seal lets water into floors and panels as it would anywhere.
The cost reflects the work involved, not guesswork. That’s why we ask a few questions first and give you a clear price before any work starts.

Bathroom resealing in Wildridings: local notes
Bracknell, which Wildridings is part of, is one of England’s post-war new towns. With many homes dating from the post-war decades, plenty of bathrooms have been resealed or refitted more than once. Sealant laid over old sealant never bonds properly, so it all has to come out. Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings.
If you live in an older home near St Michael and St Mary Magdalene's Church, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant. Managing a site like Wildridings Primary School? Then its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.

Honest limits
Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:
- A tray that rocks until it’s re-bedded
- Cracked or missing grout between tiles (that’s regrouting)
- Cracks in the tray itself rather than the joint
If you are not sure, just phone 0345 464 0079 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer.
Surfaces we seal
- Shower trays & enclosures
- Sinks & splashbacks
- Basins & vanity units
- Baths
- Kitchen worktops & upstands
- Wet rooms
Can I do it myself?
The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions.
If you’ve already had a go yourself, that’s fine. We remove it and do the joint properly.
How to look after the new joints
Aftercare is simple, and it makes a real difference:
- Run the extractor fan during and after every shower
- Never pick at the silicone with a blade
- Let new sealant cure fully before it gets wet
- Keep an eye on the corners, where splits start
Mould needs damp, so keep the room aired. Use the fan, or open a window, while you bathe and for a while afterwards, so the bead dries out between uses.
A split bead lets water through every time the bath or shower is used. Over time that water reaches floors, walls and ceilings. Resealing early stops it.
What happens on the day
A visit follows a simple pattern: we look at the joints together, protect the area around them, carry out the job and clear up. Most jobs take a couple of hours for one bath or shower, or most of a day for a full bathroom and kitchen. A visit to Wildridings is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed in advance. If the work is outside, the weather plays a part, as sealant needs a dry surface.
- First the area is protected and every bit of old sealant removed.
- The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
- The joint is left to dry, and baths are filled with water first.
- We apply anti-fungal sanitary silicone in one even bead and tool it neatly.
- We tidy up and give you the cure time, usually around 24 hours.
Preparing for the visit
- Clear items away from the joints we are working on
- For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
- Mention any parking rules near the property
