Bathroom resealing in Twyford, done properly

Homes in Twyford have the same weak spots as anywhere else: the long edge of the bath, the base of the shower tray, the back of the basin and the line along the worktop. Each one is stripped, cleaned and dried before new silicone goes in. We work on sinks & splashbacks, shower trays & enclosures and wet rooms, and people most often call us about cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone and lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt.

Being in a small place like Twyford makes no difference to the job itself: it just means planning the journey and access beforehand. In the bathroom or kitchen, the work is the same as in any town.

All our work comes with a one-year guarantee.

Looking after it afterwards

How long the joints last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Move toiletries away from the joint
  • Never pick at the silicone with a blade
  • Wipe the sealant dry after showering
  • Stick to a soft cloth and a mild cleaner

Good ventilation does more than any cleaner. Run the extractor fan during and after a shower, so the silicone gets a chance to dry.

Mould that starts as a few spots spreads through the bead. Once it’s deep in the silicone, cleaning normally won’t remove it. Catching it early keeps it a simple reseal.

Surface by surface

Sinks & splashbacks

Around the sink, we use a product suited to kitchens, including a food-safe sealant where that is needed. The joint is laid neatly so it’s easy to wipe.

Shower trays & enclosures

Shower trays are sealed to the wall, and enclosures are sealed to the tray and tiles. Both take water every day, so each is cut out and renewed with anti-fungal sanitary silicone.

Should I try it myself first?

A DIY attempt doesn’t rule out a professional job. We cut it out and start again, so just mention it when you contact us.

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

Common questions in Twyford

Will you come out to Twyford?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Is Twyford in your area for bathroom resealing?

Yes, Twyford is within the area we cover. We work across London and the South East. You can phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and let us know what needs doing.

How long does the new silicone need before I use the shower?

Generally after around 24 hours. We will tell you the cure time for the product we used.

Is it OK to put new sealant on top of the old bead?

No. Fresh silicone cannot stick to the old bead, so it peels away and hides mould and water. All the old sealant comes out first.

What sealant do you use?

Products from Arbo and Everbuild, among others, chosen to suit the joint. We explain the product when we quote.

Do you remove the old sealant?

Yes, every time. New sealant will not bond properly to old, so any old material comes out before anything new goes in.

Will you leave a mess?

Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we tidy up before we go.

How long does a bath or shower reseal take?

One bath or shower is around two hours’ work, including cutting out the old sealant. A whole bathroom plus the kitchen may take most of the day.

What we do, step by step

On the day, we look over the joints with you first, so there are no surprises. We protect the surfaces around the joints before any work begins. Most jobs take a couple of hours for one bath or shower, or most of a day for a full bathroom and kitchen. Somewhere as small as Twyford, access is often the only tricky part. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.

  1. Protection goes down around the bath, shower or worktop.
  2. Old sealant is sliced away and the residue removed.
  3. Mould is treated, then the joint is left to dry thoroughly.
  4. Baths are filled first, then anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied in a colour to suit.
  5. We finish the joint, clear up and tell you how long to leave it before it gets wet.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us if parking is tricky
  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks

When it isn’t the sealant

We’ll always be straight with you, so here’s what sealant cannot fix:

  • Damage behind the tiles that needs a tiler
  • Failed grout lines across the wall
  • Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)

If in doubt, call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Where we work in Twyford

Signs you need bathroom resealing in Twyford

Older sealant shrinks and hardens. Along worktops it tends to pull back from the wall, opening a hairline gap that lets water and crumbs in. Heat from the hob and strong sprays speed it along.

It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:

  • Lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt
  • Gaps between the worktop and the wall
  • A bead that has pulled away from the tiles
  • Failed sealant on the screen profile

Around Twyford, as everywhere, bathroom resealing is only as good as the preparation behind it.

Questions to ask before booking

  • How the joint is cleaned and prepared
  • Who turns up on the day
  • How long to leave it before use
  • Which sealant they’ll use, and why

What affects the quote in Twyford

The price is agreed before any work begins. It takes into account:

  • How much there is to do
  • Working hours on commercial sites
  • Any mould that needs treating
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out

Every job is a little different, so we quote each one individually. Size, access and the product the joint needs all play a part, and we will explain the quote if you ask.

Asking for a quote

Before you ask for a quote, have a think about:

  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • The type of property

We quote each job on its own, so the first step is telling us about yours. Just phone 0345 464 0079 or email us with the details, and pictures are welcome.
