It depends on the product. Some smell for a while, some hardly at all, and any smell fades as they cure.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Stones Green
Stones Green is close to the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Most of the South East has hard water, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Wix and Wrabness Primary School, its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.

When it is not the sealant
A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:
- A cracked shower tray or bath (that needs repair or replacement)
- A tray that rocks until it’s re-bedded
- Tiles that have come away from the wall
Not sure which it is? You can phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

For landlords and businesses

Businesses can book us for washrooms, kitchens, offices and more. For commercial premises, we can talk through working times when we quote.
Aftercare tips
A little care helps the new joints last. We recommend:
- Stick to a soft cloth and a mild cleaner
- Let new sealant cure fully before it gets wet
- Run the extractor fan during and after every shower
- Keep scourers and sharp tools away from the bead
In a kitchen, do not let water sit along the back of the worktop. The drier the joint stays, the longer it lasts.
A failed kitchen joint is easy to miss. Water gets behind the upstand and into the edge of a laminate worktop, where it can make the board swell. A reseal in time can save the worktop.

DIY versus a professional finish
Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, such as a straightforward joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.
If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.
Signs you need bathroom resealing in Stones Green
Mould is the reason many people want their sealant replaced. Bathrooms without good ventilation keep the silicone damp for hours, and mould that has grown into the silicone generally will not clean off.
Keep an eye out for any of the following:
- A reseal done over the top of the old bead
- Black spots spreading through the bead
- Splits where the tray meets the wall
- Water escaping at the shower enclosure
If you let a flat or house near Wrabness station, a reseal between tenants is a quick way to make the bathroom and kitchen look cared for.
Questions to ask before you book
- What preparation is included
- When the joint can take water or movement
- How much experience the applicator has
- Are they insured?
What we do, step by step
On the day, there’s very little for you to do. Show us the job and we’ll take it from there. The job generally takes a couple of hours for a single bath or shower. In a small place like Stones Green, access is generally the main thing to plan. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.
- First, each joint is checked for movement and signs of water.
- Every trace of the old bead is removed, including the thin smear on the tiles.
- The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
- With the joint dry, and any bath loaded with water, a single bead of anti-fungal silicone is applied.
- The bead is tooled smooth and you are told the cure time, usually around 24 hours.
How to prepare
- For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
- Mention any parking rules near the property
- Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height

Related advice
Different surfaces, different methods
Sinks & splashbacks
Around the sink, we use a product suited to kitchens, and a food-safe product where it’s needed. The bead is finished smooth so it wipes clean.
Baths
Baths move more than any other fitting, so it’s filled with water before the bead goes on. The joint is then laid with the bath at its lowest point.
