Bathroom resealing in Stanmore, done properly

Sealant is the soft line between a bath, shower or worktop and the wall. Once it cracks or goes mouldy, water starts to find its way through. Our team cut the old bead out completely and lay a new one in anti-fungal sanitary silicone. We’re often asked to deal with splits where the tray meets the wall and gaps between the worktop and the wall, on shower trays & enclosures, wet rooms and baths.

Homes around Stanmore are mostly houses and cottages rather than flats. The work is the same as anywhere: old material cut out, joints cleaned and a fresh finish laid.

All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you are.

What we do, step by step

There is not much for you to do on the day. Show us the job and we will take it from there. The job generally takes a couple of hours for a single bath or shower. Somewhere as small as Stanmore, access is often the only tricky part. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. First, each joint is checked for movement and signs of water.
  2. The old silicone is cut out completely, along with the film it leaves on the tiles.
  3. Joints are degreased and any mould is treated.
  4. With the joint dry, and any bath loaded with water, a single bead of anti-fungal silicone is applied.
  5. We tool the bead to a neat finish and give you the cure time, usually around 24 hours.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Move anything stored near the joints
  • Tell us about any water getting in
  • Keep children and pets away from the work area

When to call us in Stanmore

Sealing over old silicone is one of the commonest mistakes we find. Fresh silicone cannot grip the old bead underneath, so it peels, leaks and hides mould behind it.

Keep an eye out for these signs:

  • Failed sealant on the screen profile
  • Gaps between the worktop and the wall
  • Cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone
  • Gaps where the bath or tray has moved

Homes close to Church of St Nicholas include some older properties, and bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

What to look for in a quote

  • What the cure time is
  • Whether VAT is included
  • How the joint is cleaned and prepared
  • Whether all the old sealant comes out first

Choosing a sealant specialist

Why act early in Stanmore

The difference in a professional reseal is mostly what you don’t see: removing all the old sealant, degreasing the joint, treating mould and drying it properly. Without that preparation, the new bead won’t last. In a small place like Stanmore, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

No two jobs are quite the same, so we quote each one individually. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all make a difference, and we will explain the quote if you ask.

Why book with us

What we cannot put right

Sealant is not the answer to every problem, and we’d rather say so up front. It will not solve:

  • A cracked shower tray or bath (that needs repair or replacement)
  • Movement from a bath with loose feet or no proper support
  • Water coming from the plumbing rather than the joint

If in doubt, phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll say what we think.

What we seal

  • Wet rooms
  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Baths
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Shower trays & enclosures

Can I do it myself?

Some jobs are best left to a professional: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs need the right product, the right access and the right method.

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

How to look after the new joints

How long the joints last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Keep scourers and sharp tools away from the bead
  • Wipe up water along the back of the worktop
  • Move toiletries away from the joint
  • Wait for the cure time we give you

Give the silicone time to cure before it gets wet, following the cure time we give you. After that, a quick wipe after showering helps keep it clean.

Mould that starts as a few spots spreads through the bead. When it has grown right through, it rarely cleans out. Catching it early keeps it a simple reseal.

Stanmore questions

Is there a guarantee on bathroom resealing in Stanmore?

Every job comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever it is. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Do you cover smaller places like Stanmore?

Yes. Stanmore is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Can I do it myself?

It depends on the job. High-level, external movement and fire-rated joints are professional jobs.

Will it make a mess?

Tidy work is part of the job. We protect what’s around the joints, and we clear up when we are done.

Do you hold any approvals?

Yes. We are ARBOMaster approved, the scheme for applicators of Arbo sealants.

How long does the new silicone need before I use the shower?

Around 24 hours is typical, and we confirm the time for the product used. Using it sooner can damage the bead.

Are you insured?

Yes. We are fully insured.

Can you do several jobs on one visit?

Yes. Several rooms, windows or areas can go on one quote.

What bathroom resealing looks like in Stanmore

Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.
