About our bathroom resealing in Remenham

The bead of silicone around a bath, tray or worktop is what keeps water out of the gaps. When it splits, shrinks or turns black, water gets behind it and into the wall or floor. Our team cut the old bead out completely and lay a new one in anti-fungal sanitary silicone. We work on basins & vanity units, shower trays & enclosures and kitchen worktops & upstands, and the jobs we see most are failed sealant on the screen profile and leaks into the floor or ceiling below.

Around Remenham, it’s houses and cottages rather than flats. Sealant and grout wear out here just as they do anywhere: old material cut out, joints cleaned and a fresh finish laid.

All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you are.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Remenham

Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings. There are hotels and other places to stay in and around Remenham. Hotel bathrooms are part of our work as well as homes, and can be done room by room.

Homes close to Church of St Nicholas include some older properties, and older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Rupert House School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes. For landlords with property near Henley-On-Thames station, fresh sealant around the bath, shower and sink between tenancies helps a property present well and keeps leaks at bay.

Looking after it afterwards

Good habits help new joints last longer. A few tips:

  • Run the extractor fan during and after every shower
  • Dry worktop joints after washing up
  • Squeegee the walls and tray after use
  • Stick to a soft cloth and a mild cleaner

Good ventilation does more than any cleaner. Use the fan, or open a window, while you bathe and for a while afterwards, so the bead dries out between uses.

Don’t wait for a refit to deal with failed sealant. Like paintwork, sealant needs renewing from time to time, and replacing it when it fails protects the rest of the room.

Your questions about bathroom resealing in Remenham

Do you take on hotel work around Remenham?

Yes. Hotel and guest-house work is part of what we do. Jobs can be programmed room by room, with out-of-hours working possible to arrange.

Do you cover smaller places like Remenham?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

My sealant has gone black. Can you sort it?

Yes. Once mould has grown into the silicone, it generally can’t be cleaned out for good, so the bead comes out, the joint is treated and new anti-fungal silicone goes in.

How long does it take to reseal a bath or shower?

A single bath or shower takes about a couple of hours, old sealant removal included. A full bathroom and kitchen can take most of a day.

What does bathroom resealing cost?

The cost depends on the size of the job, access and how much old sealant has to come out. Ask us for a quote and we’ll talk you through it.

Is it messy?

No. We protect the surfaces around the joints, and we clear up the old sealant and our materials before we leave.

Can new silicone go straight over the old?

No. It’s a common reason for reseals failing. The old joint is stripped, cleaned and resealed from scratch.

What should I tell you?

Just the basics: where it is, what you’ve noticed and how we reach it. After that, simply ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.

What we cannot put right

Sealant isn’t the answer to every problem, and we’d rather say so up front. It won’t solve:

  • Water getting in through the grout rather than the sealant
  • A tray that rocks until it’s re-bedded
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall

If in doubt, call 0345 464 0079 or email us and we will say what we think.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Basins & vanity units
  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands
  • Wet rooms
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Baths

What happens if it’s left?

Fresh sealant smartens a bathroom or kitchen with very little disruption, which matters if you’re letting a property or selling it. Lumpy sealant with smears on the tiles has the opposite effect. Older cottages and farmhouses around Remenham can have timber floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.

Leaving a failed joint usually makes the job bigger, not smaller, as water and mould keep getting in. If you are unsure, call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email for an honest opinion and a quote.

DIY versus a professional finish

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

What affects the quote in Remenham

The price is agreed before any work begins. It takes into account:

  • The amount of work
  • The number of rooms or windows
  • Access and height
  • Any mould that needs treating

No two jobs are quite the same, so we quote each one individually. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all make a difference.

What we need to know

Before you ask for a quote, have a think about:

  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • A few photos by email, if you can
  • Roughly how big the job is

For a quick quote, get us on the phone, or email us if that’s easier. Describe what needs sealing and we will talk you through the work.

Different surfaces, different methods

Kitchen worktops & upstands

Upstands and back edges are cut out, cleaned of grease and resealed, since cooking leaves a film that stops silicone sticking. The extra cleaning is what makes the bead last.

Shower trays & enclosures

A tray that rocks will split any sealant. Movement is checked before anything is resealed, and if the tray needs refixing, we’ll say so.

How the visit works

Most of a good job is in the preparation, so that’s where we spend the time. Every joint is cleaned and dried before new material goes in. In total, it generally takes around two hours for one bath or shower, longer for a whole bathroom. For a village or hamlet like Remenham, the journey is planned in advance: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.

  1. First, each joint is checked for movement and signs of water.
  2. Every trace of the old bead is removed, including the thin smear on the tiles.
  3. Joints are degreased and any mould is treated.
  4. When the joint is dry, and a bath has been filled with water, the new silicone goes on.
  5. We tool the bead to a neat finish and give you the cure time, normally around 24 hours.

How to prepare

  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
  • Keep children and pets away from the work area
  • Clear items away from the joints we are working on
