How to look after the new joints
After the cure time, these simple habits help:
- Keep an eye on the corners, where splits start
- Give the silicone its full cure time
- Dry worktop joints after washing up
- Don’t let bottles sit on the bead
Keep bottles and razors off the sealant line, as they hold water against it. A quick squeegee after showering keeps water from sitting on the joint.
Watch for the early signs: lifting ends, gaps, dark shadows under the bead or a stain downstairs. Any of these means the joint needs attention.
Different surfaces, different methods
Kitchen worktops & upstands
Kitchen joints need more degreasing than bathroom ones, because cooking grease stops sealant bonding. The extra cleaning is what makes the bead last.
Baths
Most bath leaks begin along the long edge, especially under a shower. It gets one smooth bead of anti-fungal silicone.
Do you need bathroom resealing in Plastow Green?
The wrong product fails fast. Acrylic caulk and general-purpose sealants aren’t designed for a joint that’s wet every day, so they crack, discolour or grow mould quickly. A bathroom joint needs anti-fungal sanitary silicone.
These are the problems we are asked about most:
- Sealant that has split, shrunk or peeled away
- A messy, uneven bead from a previous reseal
- Damp behind the bath or under the tray
- Shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop
Schools such as Cheam School are buildings too, and its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.

What happens on the day
On the day, there’s very little for you to do. Point us to the joints and we will get on with it. The job generally takes a couple of hours for a single bath or shower, including the tidy-up. In a small place like Plastow Green, access is generally the main thing to plan. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.
- We cover the area around the joints we are working on.
- Old sealant is sliced away and the residue removed.
- We treat any mould and let the joint dry properly.
- Baths are filled first, then anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied in a colour to suit.
- We finish the joint, clear up and tell you how long to leave it before it gets wet.
Preparing for the visit
- Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
- Tell us if parking is tricky
- Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height

Landlords, agents and businesses in Plastow Green
Mouldy or split sealant often shows up at the end of a tenancy, and it’s easy to sort out between tenants. Several properties can be quoted together.
A neglected joint can let water reach the structure, which is a bigger problem in a rented property. Resealing at the right time is simple maintenance.
Why act early in Plastow Green
Most of the work in a good reseal happens before any silicone goes on: cutting out every trace of the old bead, cleaning, treating mould and letting the joint dry. Skip those steps and even the best silicone fails early. In a small place like Plastow Green, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.
Rather than a set price list, we price the job in front of us: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. You’ll know the price before we begin.
Why Plastow Green customers choose us
- Anti-fungal silicone where joints get wet
- We’re fully insured
- You choose the colour before work begins
- Neat joints and a tidy finish

Bathroom resealing in Plastow Green: local notes
Most of the South East has hard water, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings.
If you let a flat or house near Thatcham station, a reseal between tenants is a quick way to make the bathroom and kitchen look cared for. In the older streets around Church of St Paul, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.

Can I do it myself?
Some jobs are best left to a professional: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs call for the right materials, safe access and experience.
Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
