FAQs for Keiss

Will you come out to Keiss?

Yes, Keiss is covered. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Is Keiss in your area for bathroom resealing?

Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Keiss is part of that. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.

Can I do it myself?

Sometimes. The key is preparation: remove all the old material and work on a clean, dry joint. We can always put it right if it fails.

Can you reseal around my kitchen sink and worktop?

Yes. Worktops, sinks and splashbacks are all part of the job, in a kitchen-suitable sealant, matched to the worktop where it’s on show.

Can new silicone go straight over the old?

No, and it’s one of the main reasons reseals fail. We cut out all of the old sealant, clean the joint and start again.

Can you get rid of the black mould in my sealant?

Yes. Once mould has grown into the silicone, it usually can’t be cleaned out for good, so we cut it out, treat the joint and reseal with anti-fungal silicone.

Is it messy?

Tidy work is part of the job. Nearby surfaces are protected, and the area is left clean when we finish.

Do you do commercial work?

Yes. We work in offices, washrooms, hotels and other commercial premises, as well as homes. We can talk about working times when we quote.

How we handle bathroom resealing in Keiss

A reseal only lasts if the joint is properly prepared. Every bit of old silicone comes out, down to the thin film left on the tiles, then the joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould. Only once it’s dry does the new bead go on. We are often asked to deal with mouldy sealant that has gone black and failed sealant on the screen profile, on kitchen worktops & upstands, basins & vanity units and sinks & splashbacks.

Bathrooms in smaller places like Keiss work just as hard as those in the cities. Generally soft Scottish water means less limescale, but steam still lets mould into sealant and grout.

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

Bathroom resealing in Keiss: local notes

Keiss is within about 1 mile of the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out.

In the older streets around Church of Scotland, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

Keiss is about 15 miles east of Thurso, in Highland. Across the KW1 area, our applicators can take on bathroom resealing. Our Highland coverage runs to 253 places, Keiss among them.

Jobs for bathroom resealing in KW1 is quoted and booked the same way as anywhere else. Whether your property is on High Street, South Street and Robertson Crescent or a nearby road, we can help. Nearby, we also carry out bathroom resealing in Reiss (4 miles south), Ackergillshore (4 miles south), Hastigrow (5 miles west), Staxigoe (6 miles south-east) and Haster (6 miles south). If you’re somewhere remote, a little more planning is needed, so let us know when you get in touch.

For landlords and businesses

We also work for businesses, from offices to washrooms and kitchens. For commercial premises, we can talk through working times when we quote.

From a single let to a portfolio, you get the same standard of work: the old material taken out, careful preparation and a 12-month guarantee.

How the visit works

Our applicators work methodically: protect, prepare, seal, tidy. For most jobs that takes a morning or an afternoon for most single baths and showers, and the area is left clean. Outside jobs in Keiss need a dry day, because sealant will not bond to a wet joint, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Work indoors isn’t affected.

  1. We cover the area around the joints we’re working on.
  2. Old sealant is sliced away and the residue removed.
  3. Mould is treated, then the joint is left to dry thoroughly.
  4. Any bath is filled with water, then we lay a bead of anti-fungal silicone in white, clear or a matching colour.
  5. The joint is finished neatly and we explain when it can get wet.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive

Advice

Signs you need bathroom resealing in Keiss

No sealant lasts indefinitely. Daily water, heat and cleaning products slowly wear it down, so its life depends on how the room is used, cleaned and aired.

People normally contact us when they notice one of these:

  • Mouldy sealant that has gone black
  • Gaps where the bath or tray has moved
  • Smears of silicone across the tiles
  • A reseal done over the top of the old bead

Around Keiss, as everywhere, bathroom resealing is only as good as the preparation behind it.

  • How much experience the applicator has
  • What preparation is included
  • What guarantee comes with the work

Our hiring checklist

What affects the cost of bathroom resealing

You’ll get a clear quote before any work starts. It takes into account:

  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • The number and length of the joints
  • Whether the work is at height
  • The old material and how stubborn it is

A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting. If you’re not sure whether it needs doing, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you an honest view and a quote.

Asking for a quote

What to tell us when you ask for a quote:

  • A few photos by email, if you can
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved

For bathroom resealing in Keiss, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk. A short description of the job and where it is helps us quote, and we’ll agree the price before any work begins.

Leave it or put it right?

Tired sealant is not a reason to replace a bath or shower. Replacing the joint is normally all it takes. If we find a deeper problem, you’ll hear it from us. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.

A few things move the cost up or down: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, whether mould needs treating, and whether we need extra access for height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

What sealant work can’t fix

Sealant is not the answer to every problem, and we’d rather say so up front. Sealant won’t put right:

  • A cracked shower tray or bath (that needs repair or replacement)
  • Failed grout lines across the wall
  • Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)

Not sure which it is? You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

What we seal

  • Wet rooms
  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Baths

Looking after it afterwards

No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. A few tips:

  • Clean with a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft cloth
  • Keep scourers and sharp tools away from the bead
  • Squeegee the walls and tray after use
  • Keep an eye on the corners, where splits start

Good ventilation does more than any cleaner. Use the fan, or open a window, while you bathe and for a while afterwards, so the silicone gets a chance to dry.

A few black dots in the silicone soon become a black line. Once it’s deep in the silicone, cleaning usually will not remove it, and nearby grout often goes the same way. Replacing the sealant early keeps the job small.
