Bathroom & kitchen resealing in Hungerford Green, Oxfordshire
Bathroom resealing for Hungerford Green and the surrounding area: careful preparation, the right product and tidy work. Call for a quick quote.
- New sealant laid over old sealant that is now lifting
- Black spots spreading through the bead
- Lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt
Should I try it myself first?
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.
If you’ve already had a go yourself, that is fine. We remove it and do the joint properly, so just mention it when you contact us.
About our bathroom resealing in Hungerford Green
A reseal only lasts if the joint is properly prepared. The old sealant is removed to the last smear, after which the joint is degreased and any mould treated. Only once it’s dry does the new bead go on. We’re often asked to deal with splits where the tray meets the wall and mouldy sealant that has gone black, across kitchen worktops & upstands, baths and sinks & splashbacks.
Around Hungerford Green, it’s houses and cottages rather than flats. The work is the same as anywhere: old material cut out, joints cleaned and a fresh finish laid.

Hungerford Green homes and their sealant
Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings.
If you look after a building such as The Downs School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes. Homes close to St Mary's church include some older properties, and older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant. If you let a flat or house near Goring & Streatley station, a reseal between tenants is a quick way to make the bathroom and kitchen look cared for.

Quotes for bathroom resealing in Hungerford Green
Jobs vary more than people expect. The main factors:
- The size of the job
- Any working-time requirements on site
- The product the joint needs
- Whether the work is at height
What it costs depends on the amount of work, how much old material has to come out and how easy the joints are to reach. We give a clear quote before any work starts.
Helping us quote
There’s no need for technical detail. Just tell us:
- How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
- Any previous sealing or DIY work
- If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
- Where the job is, and your postcode
A good description makes for an accurate quote. Tell us where the job is, what’s wrong and how much there is, and email pictures if that is easy.
What we do, step by step
There’s no need to move everything out before we come, just the space around the work. Everything nearby is protected, and the work takes around two hours for one bath or shower, longer for a whole bathroom in most cases. Somewhere as small as Hungerford Green, access is often the only tricky part. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.
- We look at every joint first and check for movement or leaks.
- The old silicone is cut out completely, along with the film it leaves on the tiles.
- The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
- With the joint dry, and any bath loaded with water, a single bead of anti-fungal silicone is applied.
- We tool the bead to a neat finish and give you the cure time, normally around 24 hours.
Preparing for the visit
- For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
- Mention if the joints have been sealed before
- Tell us if parking is tricky

Landlords, agents and businesses in Hungerford Green
Failed sealant is one of the commonest items on a check-out report. We can quote for more than one property at once.
A neglected joint can let water reach the structure, which is a bigger problem in a rented property. Keeping joints in good order is simple maintenance that we can handle for you.
Why it’s worth doing now in Hungerford Green
A quick bead over the top of the old one might look better for a while, but it won’t bond. It lifts, traps water and grows mould behind it, so the next person has twice as much to remove. Around Hungerford Green, older homes often have timber in their floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.
Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: how much there is to do, how we reach it and what it needs. Call for a quick quote and we’ll go through it with you.

How to look after the new joints
So the new joints stay in good condition:
- Never pick at the silicone with a blade
- Open a window or run the fan so the room dries
- Let new sealant cure fully before it gets wet
- Clean with a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft cloth
Wipe up standing water along the worktop joint. A dry joint lasts longer.
A few black dots in the silicone soon become a black line. When it has grown right through, it rarely cleans out. Replacing the sealant early keeps the job small.
How the job changes by surface
Baths
Baths move more than any other fitting, so it’s filled with water before the bead goes on. The joint is then laid with the bath at its lowest point and is not stretched when it’s used.
Kitchen worktops & upstands
Kitchen joints need more degreasing than bathroom ones, because cooking grease stops sealant bonding. The extra cleaning is what makes the bead last.
