How to look after the new joints

Looking after new joints is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Clean with a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft cloth
  • Keep bottles off the sealant line
  • Keep scourers and sharp tools away from the bead
  • Don’t leave water standing on kitchen joints

Check the sealant now and then. Small splits and lifting ends are easy to catch early, and if anything looks wrong, just call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email.

There’s no need to wait for a full refurbishment. Like paintwork, sealant needs renewing from time to time, and renewing it as soon as it fails protects everything around it.

Bathroom resealing for homes and businesses in Hulcote

Resealing is a small job that makes a big difference. Black, patchy sealant makes clean tiles look tired, and a neat new joint puts that right in a short visit. It also seals the gaps that let water behind the bath. We’re often asked to deal with splits where the tray meets the wall and shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop, across kitchen worktops & upstands, basins & vanity units and sinks & splashbacks.

Homes around Hulcote are mostly houses and cottages rather than flats. Sealant and grout wear out here just as they do anywhere: everything old comes out before the new sealant or grout goes in.

Every job comes with a 12-month guarantee.

When something else is needed

Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what new sealant will not do:

  • Water getting in through the grout rather than the sealant
  • Water coming from the plumbing rather than the joint
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

What we seal

  • Kitchen worktops & upstands

How the visit works

We keep the work tidy and contained to the area we are working on, so you can carry on as normal. Expect the work to take a couple of hours for one bath or shower, or most of a day for a full bathroom and kitchen. Somewhere as small as Hulcote, access is often the only tricky part. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. We look at every joint first and check for movement or leaks.
  2. The old silicone is cut out completely, along with the film it leaves on the tiles.
  3. The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
  4. With the joint dry, and any bath loaded with water, a single bead of anti-fungal silicone is applied.
  5. The bead is tooled smooth and you are told the cure time, normally around 24 hours.

How to prepare

  • Mention any tricky access
  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
  • Keep children and pets away from the work area

Asking for a quote

Photos help, but a description is a good start. Please mention:

  • Where the property is
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email
  • If someone has resealed it before

Every job is quoted individually, so the first step is telling us about yours. Just ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with the details, and photos are welcome.

Should I try it myself first?

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

Bathroom resealing around Hulcote

Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

In the older streets around Church of St Nicholas, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.

What we are called out for in Hulcote

Mould is the reason many people want their sealant replaced. Bathrooms without good ventilation give mould all the damp it needs, and mould that has grown into the silicone usually will not clean off.

These are the problems we are asked about most:

  • Failed sealant on the screen profile
  • Leaks into the floor or ceiling below
  • Black spots spreading through the bead
  • Smears of silicone across the tiles

For landlords with property near Ridgmont station, a reseal between tenants is a quick way to make the bathroom and kitchen look cared for.

Questions to ask before booking
