- A messy, uneven bead from a previous reseal
Do you need bathroom resealing in Beckley Furnace?
Sealing over old silicone is one of the commonest mistakes we find. New silicone won’t bond to old silicone, so it lifts, lets water in and traps mould underneath.
Signs it’s time to call us include:
- Lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt
- Failed sealant on the screen profile
- Shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop
- A reseal done over the top of the old bead
For landlords with property near Doleham station, mouldy sealant is one of the first things a new tenant notices, so it’s worth renewing between lets.
Questions to ask before you book
- Which colour the sealant will be
- What insurance they hold
- What the quote includes, VAT included or not
- Is the old sealant removed completely?

We are fully insured ARBOMaster approved applicators, and every job carries our one-year guarantee. Somewhere as small as Beckley Furnace, homes tend to be cottages, farmhouses or converted buildings, with some newer houses too. Movement in older walls and floors tends to show first as cracked grout or split sealant.

Why deal with it now?
Tired sealant is not a reason to replace a bath or shower. Replacing the joint is generally all it takes, provided the bath, tray and tiles are in good order. If something else is wrong, we’ll tell you. Around Beckley Furnace, older homes often have timber in their floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.
Some things make a job bigger or smaller: the old material and how easily it comes out, whether mould needs treating, and whether the work is at height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

How the job changes by surface
Baths
Acrylic baths flex the most, while steel and cast iron baths move less but still settle when full. Filling the bath first allows for that movement.
Wet rooms
Not every wet room leak is a sealant problem. We check the joints and say so if the fault looks to be elsewhere.
Questions from Beckley Furnace

Where is Mr Mastic based?
We work from Crawley. Our applicators cover Beckley Furnace.
Can I add another job to the visit?
Of course. Combining jobs makes good use of the visit.
How long will the resealing take?
One bath or shower is around two hours’ work, old sealant removal included. A whole bathroom plus the kitchen may take most of the day.
How long does the new silicone need before I use the shower?
Generally after around 24 hours. You’ll get the exact cure time before we leave.
Should I try DIY first?
It depends on the job. High-level, external movement and fire-rated joints are professional jobs, while a short indoor joint may be within reach.
What colours of sealant can you use?
Most people choose white or clear, and other colours are available to suit tiles, trays and worktops. Let us know your preference when you ask for a quote.
How to look after the new joints
Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. We recommend:
- Look for lifting corners and small gaps now and then
- Wait for the cure time we give you
- Wipe the sealant dry after showering
- Avoid abrasive pads on the sealant
In a kitchen, don’t let water sit along the back of the worktop and keep hot pans away from the silicone. A dry joint lasts longer.
Mould that starts as a few spots spreads through the bead. Once it’s deep in the silicone, cleaning generally will not remove it, and nearby grout often goes the same way. Replacing the sealant early keeps the job small.
Should I try it myself first?
Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.
What affects the quote in Beckley Furnace
Call for a quick quote. The main things that affect it are:
- When we can work, for business premises
- How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
- The old material and how stubborn it is
- Any mould that needs treating
The cost reflects the work involved, not a rough estimate. That is why we ask a few questions first and agree the price before starting.

How the visit works
We bring everything the job needs with us, so you do not need to buy or prepare anything. After a quick look at the joints together, we protect the area and start. It normally takes a couple of hours for one bath or shower, or most of a day for a full bathroom and kitchen. For a village or hamlet like Beckley Furnace, the journey is planned in advance: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. We bring what the job needs, so it can be finished in one trip where possible.
- We protect the area and cut out all of the old sealant, including the film left on the tiles.
- We clean and degrease the joint and treat any mould.
- We let it dry fully and fill the bath with water before sealing.
- A single bead of anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied and tooled smooth.
- We clear away and tell you when it can get wet, generally after around 24 hours.
Preparing for the visit
- Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
- Mention any parking rules near the property
- For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
