Why it’s worth doing now in Spittal of Glenshee

Once mastic fails, rain can get between the frame and the wall. Over time that can mean damp patches, damaged plaster and rotting timber. Resealing now is a small job by comparison. In an older home around Spittal of Glenshee, damp from a failed joint can get into timber and plaster.

We don’t show prices on the website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. For a quick quote, please send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll talk you through it.

How we handle window mastic in Spittal of Glenshee

Colour matters on a frame. We can seal in white, brown, anthracite grey, black or clear, so the bead blends with the window rather than framing it. Typical jobs include cracked internal joints between frame and plaster and sealant in the wrong colour for the frame, across aluminium frames, timber windows & doors and composite doors.

In and around a place like Spittal of Glenshee, homes range from older stone-built cottages to newer houses. Wind-driven rain finds any gap around a frame or sill.

Whatever the size of the job, you get the same one-year guarantee in Spittal of Glenshee and across Perth and Kinross.

What affects the cost of window mastic

Your quote is based on your job. We take into account:

  • Whether the work is at height
  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • Working hours on commercial sites
  • How much there is to do

The cost depends on the size of the job, how hard the old material is to remove and how easy the joints are to reach. We give a clear quote before work begins, so you know where you stand.

Helping us quote

When you contact us, it’s useful to know:

  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • The rough size of the job
  • Where the property is

Every job is quoted individually, so start by telling us what you need. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details.

What we can’t put right

We will not take on work that won’t last, so these are the limits:

  • A sash or casement that won’t close properly
  • Damp coming through the wall itself rather than the frame joint
  • A door that needs adjusting, rehanging or new seals

Not sure which it is? You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

What we seal

  • Timber windows & doors
  • Patio & French doors
  • Aluminium frames
  • Window sills
  • Composite doors
  • uPVC windows

The process

Our applicators work methodically: protect, prepare, seal, tidy. For most jobs that takes most of a day for a typical house, less for a few frames and we leave things clean and tidy. In smaller Scottish places, parking is generally less of an issue than access and distance. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work, and the visit is planned around that.

  1. We check how each frame can be reached safely.
  2. Old, cracked mastic is removed completely.
  3. The surfaces are cleaned and left dry.
  4. Backing rod fills deep voids and the sealant goes in on top.
  5. We tool the joint so water runs off, then clear up.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints

Spittal of Glenshee homes and the weather

Sash and case windows are common in older Scottish homes, and the joint between the box frame and the stone or render is traditionally pointed with sand mastic. With historic houses such as Dirnanean House (about 4.9 miles south-west) nearby, there’s older building stock in the area around Spittal of Glenshee as well as newer homes. Where a home is older, older frames set in brick or stone need a sealant that suits them, and sometimes that’s traditional sand mastic.

If you live in an older home near Church, replacement windows fitted into old openings often leave uneven gaps that need backing and a flexible joint.

Questions from Spittal of Glenshee

Is Spittal of Glenshee in your area for window mastic?

Yes, Spittal of Glenshee is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing.

Will you come out to Spittal of Glenshee?

Yes, Spittal of Glenshee is covered. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Can you seal over the old sealant?

No. Fresh sealant does not stick to old sealant, and anything trapped underneath, including mould and water, stays there. We remove it all first.

Is the new sealant paintable?

Not if it’s silicone. We choose the product with your decorating in mind, so mention it when you book.

Can you do upstairs windows?

Yes, where they can be reached safely. Let us know about access when you ask for a quote so we can plan the job.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Landlords are often happy for the work to be arranged.

Can you quote for more than one area?

Yes. More than one area can be quoted together.

Will the old sealant be removed?

Yes, every time. New sealant will not bond properly to old, so any old material comes out before anything new goes in.

Signs you need window mastic in Spittal of Glenshee

A lot of older mastic was never designed to stay flexible. Once it’s rigid, every bit of frame movement pulls at it, leaving a hairline gap down one side.

Common reasons people contact us include:

  • Gaps where the sill meets the wall
  • Draughty joints inside around the window
  • Hard, cracked sealant around windows
  • Rushed sealant from a window installation

Around Spittal of Glenshee, as everywhere, window mastic is only as good as the preparation behind it.

Questions to ask before you book

  • How long to leave it before use
  • Is the old sealant removed completely?
  • What happens if they find a problem under the old sealant
  • How the joint is cleaned and prepared

10 questions to ask before booking

Should I try it myself first?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.

What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, and the work is guaranteed for a year.
