Frames and glazing around Pusey
Compared with the north and west, the South East gets less rain, though outdoor sealant still has to go onto a dry joint, so the forecast decides the day. With historic houses such as Longworth House (about 2.4 miles north-east) nearby, there’s older building stock in the area around Pusey as well as newer homes. In older buildings, older frames set in brick or stone need a sealant that suits them, and sometimes that is traditional sand mastic.
Managing a site like Buckland Church of England Primary School? Then its window and door frames need their mastic kept sound, just like a home’s.

Window mastic in Pusey
Some gaps around frames are far deeper than they look. Filling it with sealant alone leaves a joint that cannot move properly, so deep gaps get backing rod first. That way the new bead bonds to the frame and the wall only. We are often asked to deal with black, perished sealant on frames and a bead that doesn’t match the frame, across aluminium frames, uPVC windows and patio & French doors.
Mastic can only go onto a dry, clean joint, so window work in Pusey is booked around the forecast. Let us know about access to all the frames, upstairs ones included.

Why deal with it now?
Working on frames from a ladder with a sealant gun is not easy, especially on upper floors. We cut out properly, back deep gaps and tool every joint neatly, in a sealant suited to the wall. In a small place like Pusey, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.
Combining jobs into one visit is usually more efficient than separate visits, so it’s worth mentioning everything you’d like done. You will get one clear quote for the whole job.

Pusey questions
Is Pusey within the area you cover?
Yes, Pusey is covered. Our work covers London and the South East, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
Do you cover Pusey for window mastic?
Yes. Our work covers London and the South East, and Pusey is part of that. You can phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and let us know what needs doing.
Can you seal over the old sealant?
No, and we never do. It can look neat for a few weeks, but the new bead soon lifts. Removing the old sealant completely is the only lasting way.
Do the sealants smell?
That depends on the sealant. Some products have a noticeable smell, others very little.
Is the work guaranteed?
Yes. All our work carries a 12-month guarantee, and we are ARBOMaster approved applicators.
Are you insured?
Yes. Mr Mastic is fully insured.
Can you match the sealant to my frames?
Yes. Anthracite grey, black, brown and white cover most frames, with clear as an option.
Is it messy?
No. We work neatly, protect the area around the joints and tidy up afterwards.
Common problems we fix in Pusey
Mastic ages in the weather. UV light hardens the outside of the bead, and over the years it loses its give, cracks and comes away.
If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:
- Gaps where the sill meets the wall
- Mastic that has split away from the wall
- Rain getting in at the frame or under the sill
- Cracked internal joints between frame and plaster
In the older streets around Church of All Saints, replacement windows fitted into old openings often leave uneven gaps that need backing and a flexible joint.

Honest limits
A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:
- Damp coming through the wall itself rather than the frame joint
- Broken hinges, locks or handles
- A door that needs adjusting, rehanging or new seals
If in doubt, call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll say what we think.
Surfaces we seal
- uPVC windows
- Timber windows & doors
- Window sills
- Patio & French doors
- Composite doors
- Aluminium frames
Looking after it afterwards
Looking after new joints is easy, and it makes a real difference:
- Use gentle cleaners on frames and sealant
- Repaint timber before it’s bare
- Keep jet washers away from the mastic
- Check the mastic once a year
Keep sill grooves and drainage slots clear, so water can run away instead of sitting against the joint.
A failed joint lets water into the wall a little at a time. Often the first sign is a damp patch inside or flaking paint on the reveal. Early resealing stops it reaching that point.
Different surfaces, different methods
Window sills
Where a sill meets brick or render, the ends often crack first. We reseal them so rain can’t run into the wall.
Patio & French doors
The joints around patio doors run a long way, top, sides and threshold. Most leaks start at the bottom corners, so they get particular care.
How the visit works
At the end, we look at the finished work together and explain the cure time. The visit itself normally takes a morning for a couple of windows and a door, depending on how much there is to do. In a small place like Pusey, access is generally the main thing to plan. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.
- Each frame is looked over and we agree which ones need resealing.
- The old mastic is cut out and scraped back to clean surfaces.
- Deep gaps get closed-cell backing rod to set the depth.
- The new sealant goes on in white, brown, anthracite grey, black or clear to suit.
- We tool each bead neatly and check every joint is closed.
Preparing for the visit
- Mention if the joints have been sealed before
- For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
- Keep children and pets away from the work area
