About our window mastic in Murrell Green

Colour matters on a frame. We can seal in white, brown, anthracite grey, black or clear, so the line suits the frame instead of standing out. We’re often asked to deal with black, perished sealant on frames and gaps left after new windows were fitted, on composite doors, window sills and patio & French doors.

Homes in small places like Murrell Green often stand in the open, with little to shelter their windows from wind and rain. That exposure dries out and cracks the mastic around frames and sills faster.

You are covered for a year from the day we finish. If there’s a problem with it, please ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.

What happens on the day

We bring everything the job needs with us, so there’s nothing for you to buy. After a quick look at the joints together, the area is protected and the work begins. It normally takes a few hours for a few frames, or a day or more for a whole house. Somewhere like Murrell Green needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.

  1. We check how each frame can be reached safely.
  2. Old, cracked mastic is removed completely.
  3. Frame and wall are cleaned and must be dry before sealing, and primed where the sealant calls for it.
  4. Backing rod fills deep voids and the sealant goes in on top.
  5. The joint is shaped to shed water and the area tidied.

What window mastic looks like in Murrell Green

With historic houses such as Stratfield Saye House (about 4.9 miles north-west) nearby, there’s older building stock in the area around Murrell Green as well as newer homes. Where a home is older, older timber frames in brick or stone need a different approach from a modern uPVC window. London and the South East are among the drier parts of the UK, though outdoor sealant still has to go onto a dry joint, so the forecast decides the day.

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Hook Junior School, larger buildings have plenty of frames, and the mastic around each one ages. In the older streets around St John the Evangelist, the joint between an old wall and a newer frame is normally the first place rain gets in. For landlords with property near Winchfield station, renewing tired window mastic between tenants heads off draught and damp complaints.

Why act early in Murrell Green

Draughts and leaks don’t always mean new windows. If the frames and glass are in good order, resealing the joints is often all that is needed. If we find failed glass units or worn seals, we will tell you. In a small place like Murrell Green, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: the amount of work, how we reach it and what it needs, plus any working-time requirements on site. Call for a quick quote and we will go through it with you.

Aftercare tips

Looking after new joints is easy:

  • Keep solvents and bleach off the sealant
  • Air rooms to keep condensation down around windows
  • Do not aim a pressure washer at the joints
  • Look round the frames every year or so

On timber frames, keep the paintwork in good order, since wood that gets wet swells and shrinks more. Paint up to the joint, not over the silicone.

Signs to watch for: split or missing mastic, gaps, damp patches inside or black mould on the reveal. If you notice one, it’s time to get the joint looked at.

Surface by surface

Composite doors

Front doors take the weather head on. We pay most attention there.

Patio & French doors

Heavy door frames can move more than windows. The sealant must cope with it, where a rigid one would crack.

Murrell Green: your questions answered

Do you cover smaller places like Murrell Green?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Can you do window mastic in Murrell Green?

Yes. Our work covers London and the South East, and Murrell Green is part of that. Just call 0345 464 0079 or email us with a few details of the job.

Which products do you use?

The product depends on the job: sanitary silicone where it gets wet, and sealants suited to movement or weather elsewhere. We use products from Arbo and Everbuild.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. Mr Mastic is fully insured.

Does someone need to be in?

It depends on the job. For work indoors, someone needs to let us in, while outside work can sometimes be arranged differently.

Do you take out the old sealant first?

Yes, always, and completely. New sealant won’t bond properly to old, so the joint is cleaned back first.

Do you hold any approvals?

Yes. ARBOMaster is the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants, and we are part of it.

Can you reach windows above the ground floor?

Yes, in most cases. We plan safe access before the job.

When it is not the sealant

New sealant cannot fix everything, and we’ll tell you before work begins. Sealant will not put right:

  • A door that needs adjusting, rehanging or new seals
  • A frame that has rotted at the joint
  • A sash or casement that will not close properly

If you’re not sure, just phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

  • Composite doors
  • Timber windows & doors
  • uPVC windows
  • Aluminium frames
  • Window sills
  • Patio & French doors

Should I try it myself first?

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.

If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.
