Remedial sealant in Halstead
If a joint has been resealed and is leaking again, it’s worth a proper look. It helps to have pictures when you call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email, along with when it was last resealed. We work on leaking tray & enclosure joints, botched or over-sealed joints and shrunken worktop sealant, and common reasons people get in touch are sealant that came away because the surface wasn’t prepared and repeat leaks from the same joint.
Halstead mixes older houses with estates built more recently, so bathrooms range from long-standing suites to recent refits. Whatever their age, sealant and grout tend to go before anything else.
Whatever the size of the job, you get the same one-year guarantee.

The process
There is not much for you to do on the day. Point us to the joints and we’ll get on with it. The work itself takes a few hours for a typical bath or shower, longer where several layers have been applied from start to finish. A visit in Halstead needs access to the work and a place to park close by. If the job is outside, mention gates, side access and anything above ground floor.
- First we work out whether the problem is the sealant, movement or a leak.
- Each layer is cut out and the residue cleaned off.
- Mould is treated and the joint dried.
- The right product goes in, with backing where the joint moves.
- The joint is tooled and you’re told about anything else we found.
Preparing for the visit
- Mention if the joints have been sealed before
- Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
- Move anything stored near the joints

What affects the cost of remedial sealant
Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. The main factors:
- The number of rooms or windows
- The amount of work
- Any mould that needs treating
- The old material and how stubborn it is
Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: the amount of work, the access and the products needed. Ask us for a quote and we will explain what it covers.
What to tell us for a quote
To make quoting easier, let us know:
- The type of property
- Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
- A few photos by email, if you can
- Any previous sealing or DIY work
It all starts with a short chat. Tell us what’s wrong, where it is and how much there is. Whenever you’re ready, ring 0345 464 0079 or email us.
Bathrooms and kitchens in Halstead
Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.
For an older house near a landmark such as Congregational Church, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

Keeping the joints in good condition
After the cure time, these simple habits help:
- Always have old sealant cut out, not covered
- Keep bleach and abrasives off the bead
- Act on a lifting corner straight away
- Air the bathroom so the sealant can dry
Where we have pointed out another fault, have it put right, or the new joint may fail again.
Mould under a second layer of sealant keeps growing out of sight. When it finally shows, the whole bead needs to come out.
FAQs for Halstead
What guarantee comes with remedial sealant in Halstead?
All our work, in Halstead and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We are also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.
How do I get a quote for remedial sealant in Halstead?
The easiest way is to ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with a few details of the job. We will send you a clear quote, with a fixed price before we start.
My shower still leaks after a reseal. Can you sort it?
Yes, generally. We check it’s the sealant and not the tray, valve or waste, then the joints are stripped and resealed.
What happens if the problem is the tray or the plumbing?
In that case, we tell you what we have found. A plumber or fitter may be needed before any new sealant goes on.
What sealant do you use?
Each joint gets the product that suits it. Where it moves, gets wet or faces the weather makes a difference, and we will tell you what we’re using.
Do you do commercial work?
Yes. We work in offices, washrooms, hotels and other commercial premises. Working times can be discussed when we quote.
Do I have to be there?
If the work is inside, we need someone to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.
Is there any odour?
Some sealants have a smell while they cure, but it fades. Ventilation helps.
What happens if it’s left?
A failed seal rarely means a new bathroom. If the bath, tray and tiles are sound, remedial resealing generally puts it right. If they’re not, we will tell you. In a family home in Halstead, a failed seal around a bath or a frame lets water into places you cannot see, like the floor under a bath, the back of a panel or the inside of a wall. Left alone, that means rot, damp and a bigger repair.
Leaving a failed joint generally makes the job bigger, not smaller. If you are not sure whether it needs doing, ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we will give you an honest view and a quote.

Should I try it myself first?
Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and doesn’t move well, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.
Common problems we fix in Halstead
Products get mixed up: caulk where it gets wet, rigid sealant where things move, or an acetoxy silicone on a surface it can mark. Each fails in its own way.
People usually contact us when they notice something like this:
- Decorators’ caulk around a bath or shower
- Sealant that came away because the surface wasn’t prepared
- A shower that leaks however often it’s resealed
- Floor or wall movement joints that have failed
Schools such as Richard De Clare Community Academy are buildings too, and its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.
What your quote should include
- When the joint can take water or movement
- Is VAT in the price?
- Are they insured?
- Which colour the sealant will be
