Remedial Sealant in Drinisiadar
We cover Drinisiadar for removing failed, mouldy or leaking sealant and putting it right. Old material cut out, joints cleaned and sealed neatly and a one-year guarantee.
- Worktop sealant that has shrunk and split
- Caulk or the wrong sealant used in a wet area
- Sealant that came away because the surface wasn’t prepared
Remedial sealant in Drinisiadar, done properly
Getting old sealant out properly is slow, careful work. Every layer is cut out, the residue cleaned off and the joint degreased, taking care not to scratch the surfaces around it. Only then can new sealant bond. We are often asked to deal with floor or wall movement joints that have failed and worktop sealant that has shrunk and split, on botched or over-sealed joints, leaking tray & enclosure joints and failed movement joints.
Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses. Older buildings can move a little, and that shows first in cracked grout and split sealant.
We guarantee the work for a year. If something isn’t right with it in that time, tell us and we will put it right.

When it isn’t the sealant
Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:
- Older mastics that may need an asbestos check before removal
- Movement from fittings that are not supported
- Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)
If in doubt, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think.
Joints and surfaces we work on
- Leaking tray & enclosure joints
- Shrunken worktop sealant
- Botched or over-sealed joints
- Mouldy bath & shower sealant
- Failed movement joints
- Expansion joints
Looking after it afterwards
No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. A few tips:
- Air the bathroom so the sealant can dry
- Always have old sealant cut out, not covered
- Keep movement joints clear of mortar and paint
- Look for stains below bathrooms now and then
Do not let anyone seal over it later. New silicone does not bond to old, so the old bead should always come out first.
If a joint has failed more than once, stop resealing it. Have someone find out why, or the next bead will go the same way.
Do you need remedial sealant in Drinisiadar?
Water from somewhere else can ruin a good seal. A leaking valve, a failed waste or cracked grout feeds water behind the bead, and the sealant lifts or goes mouldy from underneath.
Most people get in touch after spotting one of these:
- Black mould underneath the bead
- Kitchen joints letting water behind the worktop
- A shower that leaks however often it’s resealed
- Beads that never stuck properly
Whether the job is in Drinisiadar itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish.

What we do, step by step
Once we’re on site, we check the joints match what you told us. If anything is different, we explain it before carrying on. After that, the work takes a few hours for most joints, depending on how much old sealant has to come out. Outside jobs in Drinisiadar need a dry day, because sealant won’t bond to a wet joint, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.
- We look at how the sealant has failed and check for movement or a leak path.
- All the old sealant comes out, including any layers underneath.
- We clean the joint, treat any mould and let it dry.
- Moving joints get backing and a flexible sealant to suit.
- The new joint is tooled neatly and we explain anything else we found.
Getting ready for the visit
- Let us know about parking restrictions
- Mention if the joints have been sealed before
- Clear the area around the work
How to get a quote
The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Let us know the location, the problem and roughly how many joints, and email pictures if that’s easy.
Advice
Questions from Drinisiadar
Is Drinisiadar within the area you cover?
Yes, Drinisiadar is covered. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, islands included, from towns to the smallest places. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
What guarantee comes with remedial sealant in Drinisiadar?
Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever it is. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.
Do the sealants smell?
That depends on the sealant. Some smell for a while, some hardly at all.
Where are you based?
Our base is in Crawley, and we work across South East England, London and Scotland.
How long does the work take?
The number of joints and layers decides it. We’ll tell you before work begins.
Can you match the sealant colour?
Usually, yes. Sealants come in white, clear, grey and other colours for many products, and we agree the colour with you before work begins.
How long before the joint can be used?
Most sealants are touch-dry well before they’re fully cured. We will tell you how long to leave the joint before we leave.
Can old silicone be taken off without scratching the tiles?
Yes. Residue is removed with a product suited to the surface rather than scraped hard, so the new sealant bonds cleanly.
Bathrooms and kitchens in Drinisiadar
Drinisiadar is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out.
In and around Drinisiadar, as anywhere, good remedial sealant starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

Why deal with it now?
Hidden water does the most damage: soaked floorboards, ceiling stains below and blown plaster. By comparison, sorting the joint is quick. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.
What you pay reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why we ask about the job first.
