How we handle remedial sealant in Creag Ghoraidh
With more than 20 years’ experience, our applicators have seen most of the ways sealant can fail. We are fully insured ARBOMaster approved applicators, and every remedial job comes with a 12-month guarantee. We’re often asked to deal with caulk or the wrong sealant used in a wet area and repeat leaks from the same joint, on leaking tray & enclosure joints, failed movement joints and mouldy bath & shower sealant.
For a place like Creag Ghoraidh, the job is the same as anywhere: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. The journey and access are simply planned in advance.
Every job is covered by our one-year guarantee.

Why act early in Creag Ghoraidh
Remedial work takes longer than a straight reseal, but not by much: it takes a few hours, depending on how many layers have to come out. It’s far less disruption than resealing the same joint again and again. In a place like Creag Ghoraidh, small leaks are easy to put off, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.
Instead of a standard rate, we look at what your job involves: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. The price is agreed before we begin.
Why Creag Ghoraidh clients choose us
- Old sealant always removed completely
- We agree the colour with you first
- Arbo and Everbuild products
- An ARBOMaster approved applicator

What affects the quote in Creag Ghoraidh
The quote reflects the job in front of us. We take into account:
- Whether there’s mould to deal with
- Whether the work is at height
- The old material and how stubborn it is
- How many areas need sealing
Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: the amount of work, the access and the products needed. Ask us for a quote and we’ll go through it with you.
What to tell us for a quote
Photos help, but a description is a good start. Try to tell us:
- Any previous sealing or DIY work
- Where the property is
- The rough size of the job
- Pictures of the joints, sent by email
The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Tell us where the job is, what’s wrong and how much there is, and email pictures if that’s easy.

What else we do in Creag Ghoraidh
When it isn’t the sealant
New sealant can’t fix everything, and we’ll tell you before we start. Sealant won’t put right:
- A tray or worktop that needs refixing first
- Older mastics that may need an asbestos check before removal
- Plumbing leaks behind walls or under trays
If you are not sure, just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you a straight answer.
What we seal
- Failed movement joints
- Botched or over-sealed joints
- Mouldy bath & shower sealant
- Shrunken worktop sealant
- Leaking tray & enclosure joints
- Expansion joints
Keeping the joints in good condition
Looking after new joints is easy:
- Don’t add new sealant on top of old
- Use a soft cloth, not a scourer, on silicone
- Report a tray that rocks or a worktop that lifts
- Check ceilings under showers for marks
Clean gently: no scraping, scouring pads or harsh chemicals.
Don’t keep resealing the same joint. Have someone find out why, otherwise the next attempt will fail too.
Creag Ghoraidh questions
Can you do remedial sealant in Creag Ghoraidh?
Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Creag Ghoraidh is part of that. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing.
What guarantee comes with remedial sealant in Creag Ghoraidh?
All our work, in Creag Ghoraidh and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We are also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.
What does remedial sealant cost?
There’s no set price, as it depends on the job: its size, the old material, access and the product needed. You’ll get a clear quote before we start.
Do you have insurance?
Yes. Mr Mastic is fully insured, with over 20 years’ experience in sealant work.
What sealant do you use?
We choose the sealant for the joint, not the other way round. Movement, water and weather all affect the choice, and we will tell you what we’re using.
Where is Mr Mastic based?
We are based in Crawley, West Sussex, and we cover South East England, London and all of Scotland.
Can failed expansion joints be resealed?
Yes. Where mortar or filler has been used instead of sealant, it’s removed where it can be, and reseal with a flexible product.
Can you strip sealant from an acrylic tray safely?
Yes. Careful removal is most of a remedial job, particularly on softer surfaces like acrylic.
Signs you need remedial sealant in Creag Ghoraidh
Water from somewhere else can ruin a good seal. A slow leak behind the tiles soaks the joint from the back, and the sealant lifts or goes mouldy from underneath.
Look out for any of the following:
- Kitchen joints letting water behind the worktop
- Sealant peeling off a dusty or damp surface
- Over-sealed joints coming away
- Floor or wall movement joints that have failed
Around Creag Ghoraidh, as everywhere, remedial sealant is only as good as the preparation behind it.

How it works
A visit follows a simple pattern: we look at the joints together, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, carry out the job and tidy away. Most jobs take a few hours for most joints, depending on how much old sealant has to come out. Somewhere like Creag Ghoraidh may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.
- The failure is looked at first, so we know whether it’s sealant, movement or water from elsewhere.
- Old beads and residue are removed down to clean surfaces.
- We treat any mould and dry the joint thoroughly.
- The right product goes in, with backing where the joint moves.
- We finish neatly and point out anything that needs another trade.
Before we arrive
- Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
- Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
- Let us know about parking restrictions

Related advice
Should I try it myself first?
The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.
The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions, and the work is guaranteed for a year.
Remedial sealant in Creag Ghoraidh: local notes
Creag Ghoraidh is within about 1 mile of the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in.
Whether the job is in Creag Ghoraidh itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish.
