Remedial sealant in Aberuthven, done properly
Decorators’ caulk in a shower, bathroom silicone on a window, a rigid filler in a movement joint will not last, however tidy it looks. We take it out and use a sealant made for that joint. Typical jobs include gaps opening along the back of the worktop and floor or wall movement joints that have failed, across mouldy bath & shower sealant, failed movement joints and expansion joints.
Being further from a city doesn’t change the work: old material out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh, even finish. The journey and access are simply planned in advance.
All our work is covered by a 12-month guarantee, wherever you are in Perth and Kinross.

Honest limits
We’d rather tell you now than do work that will not last, so these are the limits:
- A bath, tray or worktop that moves until it’s properly fixed
- Water damage behind tiles that needs a tiler
- Older mastics that may need an asbestos check before removal
Not sure which it is? You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly before you book.
Where we work in Aberuthven
- Shrunken worktop sealant
- Expansion joints
- Mouldy bath & shower sealant
- Leaking tray & enclosure joints
- Failed movement joints
- Botched or over-sealed joints
The process
There isn’t much for you to do on the day. Point us to the joints and we will get on with it. The work itself takes a few hours for a typical bath or shower, longer where several layers have been applied from start to finish. Outside jobs in Aberuthven need a dry day, because sealant won’t bond to a wet joint, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Work indoors isn’t affected.
- First we work out whether the problem is the sealant, movement or a leak.
- Old beads and residue are removed down to clean surfaces.
- Mould is treated and the joint dried.
- We reseal with a product suited to the joint, backed where needed.
- We finish neatly and point out anything that needs another trade.

Advice
What affects the quote in Aberuthven
The quote reflects the job in front of us. We take into account:
- The product the joint needs
- Access and height
- How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
- The number and length of the joints
There are no prices on our website, because each job is priced on what it involves. For a quick quote, please email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll talk you through it.
What to tell us for a quote
What to tell us when you ask for a quote:
- How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
- Photos by email, if that’s easy
- The problem you’ve noticed
- Any previous sealing or DIY work
Getting a quote is simple: tell us what needs doing and where and its rough size. A few pictures by email make the job easier to understand, and we will take it from there.
Common questions in Aberuthven
Will you come out to Aberuthven?
Yes, Aberuthven is covered. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
I let a flat near Gleneagles station. Can you help?
Yes, rental work is part of what we do. You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and a few details, and we’ll give you a fixed price before any work starts.
Can you fix a reseal that hasn’t worked?
Yes. Repeat leaks normally come from over-sealing, movement or water getting in elsewhere, so we find that first.
How long should I leave it?
It depends on the product and the conditions. We tell you how long to leave it before we go.
Will the old sealant be removed?
Yes. All of the old material is cut out and the joint cleaned before applying anything new.
Is there any odour?
That depends on the sealant. Some products have a noticeable smell, others very little, and any smell fades as they cure.
Can I choose the sealant colour?
In most cases you can choose. We will explain which colours are available.
Where do you work from?
We work from Crawley. Our applicators cover Aberuthven.

Aftercare tips
Joint life depends on how it’s used and looked after. Here’s what we suggest:
- Never seal over old silicone
- Check trays and worktops don’t move
- Never fill a movement joint with mortar or grout
- Use a soft cloth, not a scourer, on silicone
Give the new sealant its full cure time: usually around 24 hours, or as long as we advise.
Don’t keep resealing the same joint. Get the cause found first, otherwise the next attempt will fail too.
DIY versus a professional finish
Some jobs are best left to a professional: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs call for the right materials, safe access and experience.
If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.
Leave it or put it right?
Spraying mould remover on a sealed-over joint does not reach what’s underneath. Removal is the only way to get at it, so the joint can be treated and resealed. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.
A few things move the cost up or down: the old material and how easily it comes out, any mould to treat, and whether we need extra access for height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

How the job changes by surface
Leaking trays & enclosures
A cracked tray, failed valve or leaking waste needs a different fix. We say so rather than reseal.
Worktops & kitchens
If a worktop moves when you lean on it, the sealant will keep splitting. That needs refixing before resealing, which we’ll point out.
Remedial sealant around Aberuthven
Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.
Letting a property close to Gleneagles station? Then botched sealant from a previous quick fix is easier to strip out between tenants. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Community School of Auchterarder, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.
