Regrouting in Wheatley

Can I do it myself?

What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, and the work is guaranteed for a year.

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

How we handle regrouting in Wheatley

We take the old grout out to a consistent depth, without damaging the edges of the tiles. The joints are then vacuumed, regrouted and cleaned off, and the corners get fresh silicone. We are often asked to deal with shower grout that has worn away and greasy, stained grout behind the hob, on bathroom wall tiles, wet rooms and shower walls.

In a smaller place like Wheatley, homes are mostly houses and bungalows rather than flats, some older and some much newer. Sealant and grout wear out here just as they do in a big town.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Wheatley as everywhere else we work.

Wheatley homes and their sealant

Most of the South East has hard water, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

Managing a site like Wheatley Church of England Primary School? Then washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

Wheatley questions

Do you cover Wheatley for regrouting?

Yes. We work across London and the South East, and Wheatley is part of that. You can phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and tell us what needs doing.

Will you come out to Wheatley?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Many landlords are glad to have it sorted.

Do you guarantee regrouting?

All our work carries a one-year guarantee.

How long does regrouting take?

Typically it takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Bigger jobs take longer, and we will tell you how long to expect.

What goes in the corners, grout or silicone?

We seal corners with silicone. They move slightly and grout can’t take that movement.

Can you regrout just the shower?

Yes, we often do. The shower generally fails first, so it’s often the only area that needs doing.

Is there any odour?

There can be a smell while the sealant cures, but it fades. Opening a window helps.

How the visit works

Good joint work is mostly preparation, and we do not rush it. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. All told, the work takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. In a smaller place like Wheatley, parking is seldom the issue; lanes, gates and long drives are worth mentioning. For outside work, side access and the height of the joints help us plan.

  1. First we agree what’s being done and flag any loose tiles.
  2. We remove the old grout carefully.
  3. The joints are cleaned out and vacuumed.
  4. The new grout goes in, then the tile faces are cleaned.
  5. We renew the silicone at the corners and edges.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us if parking is tricky
  • Clear the area around the work

We also work for property managers and facilities teams. Several sites can be quoted together, and we’re fully insured for the work.

From a single let to a portfolio, you get the same standard of work: the old material taken out, careful preparation and a 12-month guarantee.

Do you need regrouting in Wheatley?

Some grout fails because it was mixed or laid badly. If it was mixed too wet or not pressed in firmly tends to wash out early.

Common reasons people contact us include:

  • Cracked grout along the bath or tray
  • Grout stained black or orange that won’t clean
  • Greasy, stained grout behind the hob
  • Grout that is cracking and breaking up

In the older streets around Church of St Mary, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.

Questions to ask before you book

  • What insurance they hold
  • Who turns up on the day
  • Which colour the sealant will be
  • Is the old sealant removed completely?

Our hiring checklist

What happens if it’s left?

Grouting over old grout rarely lasts. A thin skin on top tends to break off, taking any repair with it. Raking out to a consistent depth gives the new grout something to hold. Around Wheatley, water from a failed joint in an older home can soak into timber and plaster, which is far harder to put right than the sealant itself.

There are no prices on our website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. For a quick quote, please ring 0345 464 0079 or email us.

How to look after the new joints

To keep the joints looking good and working properly:

  • Do not use strong acidic cleaners on grout
  • Do not ignore a tile that feels loose
  • Wipe water off the walls when you are done
  • Use a soft brush rather than a wire one

If a tile starts to feel loose, get it looked at early. A loose tile cracks the grout around it and open a path for water.

Small problems with grout are quick to put right. Left for a few years, they can become a leak so it’s worth dealing with as soon as you spot it.

When it is not the sealant

It helps to know what we can’t do too:

  • Waterproofing that has failed below the tiling
  • Water coming from plumbing rather than grout
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall

If you’re not sure, just phone 0345 464 0079 or email us and we will give you a straight answer.
