About our regrouting in Rose Green

We regroute showers, bathroom walls and floors, splashbacks and wet rooms. It can be a full room, others just the shower. Whatever the size, the method stays the same. If you have grout that’s cracking and breaking up and grout that makes sound tiles look old, we can put it right.

Somewhere as small as Rose Green, homes tend to be cottages, farmhouses or converted buildings, with some newer houses too. Older walls and timber floors can move a little, and cracked grout and split sealant are often the first signs.

There’s a 12-month guarantee on every job, large or small.

Rose Green homes and their sealant

Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

If you live in an older home near Church of St Barnabas, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first. If you look after a building such as Chappel Church of England Controlled Primary School, its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.

Rose Green is about 6 miles east of Halstead, in Essex. Wherever you are in the CO6 postcode area, we can carry out regrouting at your property. Across Essex, we cover 644 places, and Rose Green is one of them. You can also see our page for Chelmsford, about 17 miles away.

How it works

All our tools and materials come with us in the van. Once we’ve agreed what’s being done, we protect the area and start. Most jobs take a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. In a small place like Rose Green, access is usually the main thing to plan. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. We start by checking the tiles for any that are loose or hollow.
  2. The old grout comes out to a consistent depth, without damaging the tiles.
  3. We vacuum the joints and clean out the dust.
  4. We fill the joints with new grout, then clean the tiles.
  5. The corners and edges get new silicone, because grout there would crack.

How to prepare

  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Mention any tricky access

Why deal with it now?

With regrouting, your tiles stay where they are. Retiling means stripping the walls, making good and choosing new tiles, and the room is out of use for longer. If the tiles are sound, regrouting is the simpler fix. Around Rose Green, older homes often have timber in their floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.

Leaving a failed joint normally makes the job bigger, not smaller, because water and mould keep working on it. If you’re unsure, call 0345 464 0079 or email us and we will give you an honest view and a quote.

What we’re called out for in Rose Green

Grout that was put in corners cracks as the bath or tray moves. They need flexible sealant, and if they’re grouted, a crack soon lets water in.

The most common problems we see are:

  • Kitchen splashback grout stained by grease
  • Grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned
  • Crumbling grout between the tiles
  • Floor grout that will not come clean

If you let a flat or house near Chappel & Wakes Colne station, stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right.

When it is not the sealant

Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits too:

  • Tiles that are chipped or split
  • Leaks from pipes, valves or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • A leaking wet room membrane

Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 464 0079 or email us and we will tell you honestly before booking.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, then guaranteed for a year.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

Looking after it afterwards

Looking after new joints is easy:

  • Clean with a soft brush, not anything metal
  • Have loose tiles looked at early
  • Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower
  • Open a window or run the fan to clear steam

Leave the area unused for as long as we advise, so it cures fully. From then on, a quick rinse after showering helps and keep the room ventilated.

Fixing grout early is a small job. Left for a few years, they can become a leak, so get it looked at when you notice it.

FAQs for Rose Green

Will you come out to Rose Green?

Yes. Rose Green is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Do you work for landlords with property near Chappel & Wakes Colne station?

Yes. We work for landlords and letting agents as well as householders, and several properties can go on one quote. Just call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with the address and what needs doing, and we will give you a clear quote.

Is there any odour?

There can be a smell while the sealant cures, but it fades. Opening a window helps.

Will it make a mess?

No. We protect the surfaces around the joints, and we tidy up before we go.

What if some of my tiles are loose?

New grout can’t hold loose tiles in place. We check the tiles first and tell you if any are loose or hollow so you know where you stand.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. We are fully insured for every job we do.

How long will you be here?

Most jobs take a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room, including preparation and clearing up. We’ll confirm how long when we quote.

Does someone need to be in?

Access is agreed with you when the job is booked. Indoors, that usually means someone at home.

What the job involves on each surface

Shower walls

Most regrouting jobs include a shower. Gaps here let water get behind the tiling.

Corners and edges

The joint between tiles and a bath, tray or worktop gets silicone. Grout there would crack.
