Bathrooms and kitchens in Lochboisdale
Lochboisdale is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Work on the islands has to be planned around ferry crossings and the weather, so give us as much notice as you can.
Around Lochboisdale, as everywhere, regrouting is only as good as the preparation behind it.

About our regrouting in Lochboisdale
Across Lochboisdale, we regrout tiled showers, bathrooms and kitchens. Out comes the old grout, the joints are cleaned and new grout goes in, and we finish by resealing the edges. We work on wet rooms, shower walls and bathroom floors, and common reasons people get in touch are grout stained black or orange that won’t clean and grout washed out of a shower.
A bathroom in a place like Lochboisdale gets the same daily wear as one in a city flat. Limescale is less of a problem with Scotland’s generally soft water, but mould still takes hold in damp sealant and grout.
All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months.

What the job involves on each surface
Corners and edges
Internal corners move, so we seal them rather than grout them.
Wet rooms
New grout in a wet room keeps the surface sound. It does not repair failed tanking underneath.
DIY versus a professional finish
Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
Not every job suits DIY: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas need the right product, the right access and the right method.
How to look after the new joints
How long the joints last depends on use and care. We suggest:
- Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers on grout
- Rinse the tiles after showering
- Look at the sealant in the corners now and then
- Wipe or squeegee the shower walls
Give the new grout the time we tell you before using the shower, so it cures fully. After that, rinse the tiles after showering and let the room air.
Cracked grout doesn’t stay cracked for long. Water gets in behind and the tiles can start to loosen, so regrouting early can save a retile.
What happens if it’s left?
Bleach can lighten stained grout for a while, but mould that has got into grout generally comes back. New grout, with silicone in the corners, deals with the cause. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.
A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting, because water and mould keep working on it. If you are not sure whether it needs doing, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk for an honest opinion and a quote.

What happens on the day
Good joint work is mostly preparation, and we don’t rush it. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. In total, it usually takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. In smaller Scottish places, parking is usually less of an issue than access and distance. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints, and the visit is planned around that.
- Every tile area is checked for hollow or loose tiles first.
- We rake out the grout evenly, protecting the tile edges.
- We vacuum the joints so the new grout bonds.
- New grout is pressed into the joints and the tiles are cleaned.
- We finish with silicone in the moving joints.
How to prepare
- Tell us if parking is tricky
- Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
- Clear items away from the joints we are working on

Signs you need regrouting in Lochboisdale
Movement behind the tiles cracks grout. Loose tiles, bouncy floors and timber walls can all do it, which is why we check the tiles first.
Any of these means the joints need attention:
- Cracked grout along the bath or tray
- Discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles
- Old grout in a dated colour
- Cracked or crumbling grout lines
Whether the job is in Lochboisdale itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish.

What affects the cost of regrouting
You will get a clear quote before we start. It’s based on:
- When we can work, for business premises
- How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
- The old material and how stubborn it is
- Mould in or behind the old joints
Every job is a little different, so we quote each one individually. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all play a part.
Asking for a quote
Photos help, but a description is a good start. Please mention:
- The address or postcode of the job
- What’s wrong with the joints now
- How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
- Pictures of the joints, sent by email
The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Let us know the location, the problem and roughly how many joints, and email photos if that is easy.
Lochboisdale questions
Is there a guarantee on regrouting in Lochboisdale?
All our work, in Lochboisdale and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We’re fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.
Is Lochboisdale in your area for regrouting?
Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Lochboisdale is part of that. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we’ll give you a clear price.
Do you regrout part of a bathroom, like the shower?
Yes, that is common. Shower grout tends to go before the rest, so it’s often the only area that needs doing.
Can landlords and businesses book you?
Yes, we do. We work in homes, commercial premises and hotels.
What sealant do you use?
Each joint gets the product that suits it. Where it moves, gets wet or faces the weather makes a difference.
Do I have to be there?
If the work is inside, we need someone to let us in. Once we’ve agreed the job, you don’t need to watch us work.
What does regrouting cost?
We don’t publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: how much there is, what’s there now, how we reach it and what it needs. You’ll get a clear quote before work begins.
Do you work for hotels and businesses?
Yes. We can plan bigger jobs in stages.
