Regrouting for homes and businesses in Hinxworth

Most regrouting jobs include resealing too. Grout belongs between tiles, but corners and edges move, so they’re sealed with silicone rather than grout. Renewing both together means nothing is left half-done. Typical jobs include greasy, stained grout behind the hob and corners filled with grout instead of silicone, across shower walls, tiled floors and bathroom floors.

Somewhere as small as Hinxworth, homes tend to be cottages, farmhouses or converted buildings, with some newer houses too. Movement in older walls and floors tends to show first as cracked grout or split sealant.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If there’s a problem with it, please ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.

Silicone being applied where a shower enclosure meets beige wall tiles

Can I do it myself?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone will not bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.

If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

Hinxworth homes and their sealant

Most of the South East has hard water, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings.

Rented homes near Arlesey station change hands often, and a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant. In the older streets around Church of St Nicholas, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.

Honest limits

We’d rather tell you now than do work that won’t last, so here’s what sealant can’t put right:

  • A structure that flexes behind the tiles
  • A leaking shower valve or waste
  • Tiles that are chipped or split

If in doubt, call 0345 464 0079 or email us and we’ll say what we think.

Quotes for regrouting in Hinxworth

We do not publish a price list. The quote depends on:

  • Any mould that needs treating
  • Access and height
  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • The number of rooms or windows

Instead of a standard rate, we price the job in front of us: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. The price is agreed before we begin.

What to tell us for a quote

When you call or email, it’s useful to know:

  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • Photos by email, if that’s easy

There’s no standard price list, because every job is different. Instead, your job gets its own clear quote. To get started, ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.

For landlords and businesses

Failed sealant is one of the commonest items on a check-out report. We can quote for more than one property at once.

Water getting past a failed joint can damage the building, which is a bigger problem in a rented property. Resealing at the right time is simple maintenance.

What happens on the day

Our applicators work methodically: protect, prepare, seal, tidy. For most jobs that takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. Somewhere as small as Hinxworth, access is often the only tricky part. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. First we agree what’s being done and flag any loose tiles.
  2. Grout is raked out without chipping the tiles.
  3. Dust is cleared from every joint.
  4. The new grout goes in, then the tile faces are cleaned.
  5. Internal corners and edges are resealed.

Before we arrive

  • Keep children and pets away from the work area
  • Mention any parking rules near the property
  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before

Advice

Why deal with it now?

With regrouting, your tiles stay where they are. Retiling is a much bigger job: stripping, making good, new tiles and new grout, and often a few days without a shower. When the tiles are fine, it’s the sensible first step. In a small place like Hinxworth, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

Combining jobs into one visit usually makes better use of the time than several visits, so it’s worth mentioning everything you’d like done. You will get one clear quote for the whole job.

Is the work guaranteed?

Our one-year guarantee covers every job, including regrouting.

Could my grout be a different colour after regrouting?

Yes. It’s the ideal time to change it. Mention the colour you have in mind when you call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.

Are you insured?

Yes. We’re fully insured.

Can you quote for more than one area?

Yes, and it often makes sense. Combining jobs makes good use of the visit, so mention them when you ask for a quote.

What do you need from me for a quote?

The location, the problem and the rough size of the job. If you can, email a few photos.

What goes in the corners, grout or silicone?

Corners get silicone, not grout. They flex, and grout there cracks.

Keeping the joints in good condition

Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Wipe or squeegee the shower walls
  • Use gentle cleaners on grout
  • Use a soft brush rather than a wire one
  • Keep the fan on after showering

Check the corner silicone now and then. It’s the part that moves, so it’s usually the first thing to need attention, long before the grout does.

Grout that stays dark after cleaning is starting to fail. Regrouting at this stage is straightforward, before the joints open up.
