Haldens Regrouting
Tiled areas in Haldens need attention? We cut out the old, prepare the joints and apply the right sealant, and the work is guaranteed for a year.
- Floor grout that has worn and darkened
- Gaps where the shower grout has gone
- Grout in a colour the owner wants to change
Why it’s worth doing now in Haldens
Regrouting keeps the tiles you already have. Retiling means stripping the walls, making good and choosing new tiles, and often a few days without a shower. When the tiles are fine, it’s the sensible first step. In a smaller place like Haldens, wherever a wall is exposed, a failed outside joint is a real source of damp. Indoors, a failed seal lets water into floors and panels as it would anywhere.
What it costs depends on how much there is to do, how hard the old material is to remove and access to the work. You’ll have a clear quote before any work starts, so you know where you stand.

How we handle regrouting in Haldens
Across Haldens, we regrout tiled showers, bathrooms and kitchens. Out comes the old grout, the joints are cleaned and new grout goes in, finished with new silicone at the edges. If you have floor grout that has worn and darkened and a grout colour that no longer suits the room, we can put it right, whatever the surface.
Homes around Haldens range from older cottages to more recent houses. Older homes can move a little with the seasons, which is hard on tired sealant and rigid grout.

What we can’t put right
New sealant can’t fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. Sealant will not put right:
- Tiles that are loose or hollow behind
- Water coming from plumbing rather than grout
- Tiles that are chipped or split
If in doubt, ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll say what we think before you book.
What we seal
- Bathroom floors
- Bathroom wall tiles
- Wet rooms
- Tiled floors
- Kitchen splashbacks
- Shower walls
How it works
Good joint work is mostly preparation, so that’s where we spend the time. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. All told, the work takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. A visit to Haldens is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed in advance. If the work is outside, the weather plays a part, as sealant needs a dry surface.
- First we agree what’s being done and flag any loose tiles.
- We remove the old grout carefully.
- The joints are cleaned out and vacuumed.
- The new grout goes in, then the tile faces are cleaned.
- Internal corners and edges are resealed.
Before we arrive
- Mention any parking rules near the property
- Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
- On commercial sites, let us know about site rules

It all starts with a short chat. Tell us what’s wrong, where it is and how much there is, and we’ll explain how we’d tackle it. When it suits you, ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.

Regrouting around Haldens
Most of the South East has hard water, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in. Welwyn Garden City, which Haldens is part of, was laid out as a garden city in the early twentieth century. Homes range from early twentieth-century houses to later estates, so bathrooms and kitchens of every age need their sealant and grout renewing.
In the older streets around Christ the King, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant. Schools such as Waterside Academy are buildings too, and its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.
Haldens is about 1 mile north of Welwyn Garden City, in Hertfordshire. We provide regrouting to homes and businesses in Haldens, as part of our work across Hertfordshire. We cover 381 towns and villages across Hertfordshire, large and small. London is on our list too, around 22 miles away.
All of AL7, AL8 and AL6 is within our area for regrouting. If you need regrouting at a property on Hertford Road, Bessemer Road and Digswell Lane or anywhere close by, our applicators can take on the job. If you’re just outside Haldens, we cover Digswell (1 mile north-west), Harmer Green (1 mile north), Tewin (1 mile east), Burnham Green (2 miles north-east) and Tewin Wood (2 miles north-east). Different surfaces, different methods
Bathroom floors
Floor grout takes foot traffic as well as water. It wears and darkens over time.
Bathroom wall tiles
Splash areas around basins and baths stain first. We can do part of a wall or all of it.
When to call us in Haldens
Poor ventilation keeps grout damp, giving mould a place to grow. When black spots keep returning, the mould has generally got into the grout.
These are the problems we’re asked about most:
- Grout washed out of a shower
- Good tiles let down by tired grout
- Stained grout that cleaning won’t shift
- Grout that’s cracking and breaking up
For landlords with property near Welwyn North station, a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant.
What your quote should include
- Whether VAT is included
- Who turns up on the day
- What happens if they find a problem under the old sealant
- How the surfaces are prepared before sealing
What affects the quote in Haldens
Jobs vary more than people expect. What affects the quote:
- Working hours on commercial sites
- The product the joint needs
- Access and height
- The number and length of the joints
No two jobs are quite the same, so each one gets its own quote. Size, access and the product the joint needs all make a difference, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.
Asking for a quote
A few details help us give you an accurate quote. When you ask for a quote, tell us:
- How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
- A few photos by email, if you can
- Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
- The problem you’ve noticed
Getting a quote is simple: let us know what needs doing and where and its rough size. A few pictures by email make the job easier to understand, and we’ll take it from there.
Can I do it myself?
The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions, and the work is guaranteed for a year.
If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.
Haldens questions
Do you work for landlords with property near Welwyn North station?
Yes, rental work is part of what we do. You can phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with the address and a few details, and we will give you a fixed price before work begins.
Do older homes in Haldens need their sealant replacing?
Often, yes: cracked, shrunken or mouldy sealant has done its job. The key is cutting all the old sealant out, as new sealant will not bond to it.
Which products do you use?
Products from Arbo and Everbuild, among others, chosen to suit the joint. We explain the product when we quote.
What goes in the corners, grout or silicone?
Corners get silicone, not grout. They move slightly, and grout there cracks.
How much does regrouting cost in Haldens?
Size, access and the old material all affect the cost. Ask us for a quote and we will talk you through it.
Are you an approved applicator?
Yes. Mr Mastic is an ARBOMaster approved applicator.
Do you have insurance?
Yes. We are fully insured.
Will regrouting fix loose tiles?
New grout cannot hold loose tiles in place. We check the tiles first and tell you if any are loose or hollow, so you can decide what to do.
