Regrouting for Gosmore homes and businesses

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

How we handle regrouting in Gosmore

We regroute showers, bathroom walls and floors, splashbacks and wet rooms. It can be a full room, or just the area that has failed. Whatever the size, the method stays the same. Common call-outs are for corners filled with grout instead of silicone and gaps where the shower grout has gone, across kitchen splashbacks, tiled floors and shower walls.

For a small place like Gosmore, regrouting is planned like any other job: the journey and access are simply agreed in advance. Once we’re there, the bathroom or kitchen gets the same care as anywhere else.

Your job is guaranteed for a year, as with all our work.

Gosmore: your questions answered

Do you work for hotels and guest houses in Gosmore?

Yes. Hotel and guest-house work is part of what we do. Jobs can be programmed room by room, with out-of-hours working possible to arrange.

Will you come out to Gosmore?

Yes. Gosmore is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Do you take out the old sealant first?

Always. Sealing over old sealant is the main reason resealing fails early, and it’s something we never do.

Are you an approved applicator?

Yes. ARBOMaster is the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants, and we’re part of it.

Will you leave a mess?

Not at all. The area is protected while we work and cleaned up afterwards.

Do I have to be there?

That depends on where the joints are. Inside work needs someone to give us access.

Can you seal over the old sealant?

No. The old sealant always comes out first, so the new sealant bonds properly.

Where is Mr Mastic based?

Our base is in Crawley, and we work across South East England, London and Scotland.

Why deal with it now?

With regrouting, your tiles stay where they are. Retiling means stripping the walls, making good and choosing new tiles, and often a few days without a shower. If the tiles are sound, regrouting is the simpler fix. Around Gosmore, older homes often have timber in their floors and frames, where water from a failed joint can cause rot if it’s left.

Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: the amount of work, the access and the products needed, along with when we can work on site. Ask us for a quote and we’ll explain what it covers.

Regrouting in Gosmore: local notes

There are hotels and other places to stay in and around Gosmore. As well as homes, we work in hotel bathrooms, where resealing and regrouting can be done room by room. Most of the South East has hard water, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings.

In the older streets around Church of St Ippolyts (church of England), walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first. For landlords with property near Hitchin station, stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right.

Gosmore is about 1 mile south of Hitchin, in Hertfordshire. Every kind of property in Gosmore can book us for regrouting, old or new, large or small. The work is guaranteed for a year. We cover 381 towns and villages across Hertfordshire, large and small. You can also see our page for London, roughly 31 miles from Gosmore.

Work in SG4 is quoted and booked the same way as anywhere else. That includes homes and businesses on London Road, Mill Lane and Orchard Close. The process

On the day, there’s very little for you to do. Show us the job and we will take it from there. The job generally takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. In a small place like Gosmore, access is generally the main thing to plan. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.

  1. We agree the area to be regrouted and point out any loose tiles.
  2. We remove the old grout carefully.
  3. Dust is cleared from every joint.
  4. The new grout goes in, then the tile faces are cleaned.
  5. Internal corners and edges are resealed.

Advice

What we cannot put right

Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:

  • Waterproofing that has failed below the tiling
  • Tiles that are chipped or split
  • Leaks from pipes, valves or wastes (a plumber’s job)

If you’re not sure, just ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

What we seal

  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Wet rooms
  • Bathroom floors
  • Tiled floors
  • Shower walls

Do you need regrouting in Gosmore?

Soap scum and limescale build up on grout and stick to it. The grout beneath can stain and weaken, and at that point, new grout is the better answer.

Look out for these signs:

  • Splashback grout that has darkened
  • Grout stained black or orange that will not clean
  • Cracked or crumbling grout lines
  • Grout that makes sound tiles look old

If you look after a building such as St Ippolyts Church of England Aided Primary School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

Choosing a sealant specialist

Looking after it afterwards

How long the joints last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Run the extractor fan during and after a shower
  • Have loose tiles looked at early
  • Use a soft brush rather than a wire one
  • Use a squeegee on the tiles after showering

Give the new grout the time we tell you before using the shower, so it cures fully. From then on, a quick rinse after showering helps and keep the room ventilated.

Grout that is washing out of a shower shouldn’t be left. Every shower pushes more water into the gaps and it can end up in the wall or the ceiling below.

Surface by surface

Wet rooms

In a wet room, the whole floor gets wet, so sound grout really matters. We check the tiles first.

Shower walls

A shower wall is soaked daily, so its grout takes the most punishment. It’s often the first place grout washes out.
