How we handle regrouting in Chatham Green

When grout stays dark however much you clean it, the stain is often in the grout itself. Replacing it is the lasting answer and you can pick a different colour while you’re at it. We work on wet rooms, tiled floors and shower walls, and common reasons people get in touch are floor grout that has worn and darkened and stained grout that cleaning won’t shift.

In a village or hamlet like Chatham Green, homes are often older cottages and farmhouses alongside a few newer houses. Movement in older walls and floors tends to show first as cracked grout or split sealant.

Big or small, it’s backed by our one-year guarantee.

Common questions in Chatham Green

Will you come out to Chatham Green?

Yes, we do. Our work covers London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Is Chatham Green in your area for regrouting?

Yes. We work across London and the South East, and Chatham Green is part of that. Just call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with a few details of the job, and we will give you a clear price.

Where is Mr Mastic based?

We are based in Crawley, and we cover South East England, London and all of Scotland.

How long should I wait before showering?

It varies with the products and the room. We’ll tell you exactly how long at the end of the visit.

What do you put in the joint?

Products from Arbo and Everbuild, among others, chosen to suit the joint. We explain the product when we quote.

Do you hold any approvals?

Yes. Mr Mastic is an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Can you do several jobs on one visit?

Yes, and it often makes sense. Doing several areas at once is generally more efficient, so mention them when you ask for a quote.

Will the sealant be renewed as well as the grout?

Normally, yes. Corners and edges need flexible silicone and doing both at once leaves everything sound.

What the job involves on each surface

Kitchen splashbacks

Splashback grout picks up grease and cooking stains. Once it’s stained, new grout is often the only fix.

Bathroom floors

Floor grout takes foot traffic as well as water. It wears and darkens over time.

Do you need regrouting in Chatham Green?

Poor ventilation keeps grout damp, and damp grout is where mould grows. When black spots keep returning, the mould has normally got into the grout.

Common reasons people contact us include:

  • Grout stained black or orange that won’t clean
  • Greasy, stained grout behind the hob
  • Discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles
  • Crumbling grout between the tiles

In the older streets around Church of St John the Evangelist, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

10 questions to ask before you book

DIY sealant or a professional job?

If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

The process

Before we leave, we go over the finished joints with you and tell you how long to leave it. The visit itself usually takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area, depending on how much there is to do. Somewhere as small as Chatham Green, access is often the only tricky part. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.

  1. Every tile area is checked for hollow or loose tiles first.
  2. The old grout is removed to an even depth.
  3. The joints are vacuumed clean.
  4. New grout is pressed into the joints and the tiles are cleaned.
  5. We finish with silicone in the moving joints.

Before we arrive

  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
  • Mention any parking rules near the property
  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children

Advice

How to look after the new joints

Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. We recommend:

  • Wipe or squeegee the shower walls
  • Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers on grout
  • Keep the fan on after showering
  • Use a soft brush rather than a wire one

Give the new grout the time we tell you before using the shower, so it can harden properly. After that, rinse the tiles after showering and keep the room ventilated.

Grout that stays dark after cleaning is starting to fail. Regrouting at this stage is straightforward, before the joints open up.

Why deal with it now?

With regrouting, your tiles stay where they are. Retiling means stripping the walls, making good and choosing new tiles, and often a few days without a shower. When the tiles are fine, it’s the sensible first step. Older cottages and farmhouses around Chatham Green can have timber floors and frames, where water from a failed joint can cause rot if it’s left.

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one gets its own quote. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all make a difference, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.

When something else is needed

New sealant cannot fix everything, and we’ll tell you before any work starts. It won’t solve:

  • Tiles that have come away from the wall
  • A leaking wet room membrane
  • A structure that flexes behind the tiles
