Regrouting for Bow Brickhill homes and businesses

What we are called out for in Bow Brickhill

Movement behind the tiles cracks grout. Loose tiles, bouncy floors and timber walls can all do it, so we check the tiles before work begins.

Most people get in touch when they notice one of these:

  • Crumbling grout between the tiles
  • Cracked grout along the bath or tray
  • Grout washed out of a shower
  • Floor grout that has worn and darkened

Schools such as Bow Brickhill CofE VA Primary School are buildings too, and its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.

10 questions to ask before booking

Regrouting in Bow Brickhill, done properly

Before any work starts, the tiles are checked. Loose or hollow tiles are pointed out first, since new grout can’t fix a problem underneath. Where the tiles are sound, regrouting gives the area a new lease of life. We work on bathroom floors, wet rooms and tiled floors, and common reasons people get in touch are stained grout that cleaning won’t shift and gaps where the shower grout has gone.

For a small place like Bow Brickhill, regrouting is planned like any other job: it just means planning the journey and access beforehand. In the bathroom or kitchen, the work is the same as in any town.

Your job is guaranteed for a year, as with all our work.

When it is not the sealant

Sealant is not the answer to every problem, and we’d rather say so up front. It won’t solve:

  • Movement in a stud wall or floor
  • A leaking shower valve or waste
  • Cracked or broken tiles

If you are not sure, just call 0345 464 0079 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Tiled floors
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Wet rooms
  • Shower walls
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Bathroom floors

DIY sealant or a professional job?

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone will not bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

Surface by surface

Corners and edges

We reseal edges at the same time as regrouting, so the whole area is finished together.

Bathroom wall tiles

Tiles away from the shower stay drier but still stain and crack. New grout freshens them up.

Your questions about regrouting in Bow Brickhill

Can you do regrouting in Bow Brickhill?

Yes, Bow Brickhill is within the area we cover. We work across London and the South East. You can call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and let us know what needs doing, and we’ll send you a clear quote.

I let a flat near Bow Brickhill station. Can you help?

Yes, we work for letting agents and landlords. You can phone 0345 464 0079 or email us with the address and a few details, and we’ll give you a fixed price before any work starts.

Can I do it myself?

It depends on the job. High-level, external movement and fire-rated joints are professional jobs, while a short indoor joint may be within reach.

How long does regrouting take?

A typical job takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Your quote will say how long we expect yours to take.

Do I need to be at home?

Access is agreed with you when the job is booked. Indoors, that generally means someone at home.

Do you guarantee regrouting?

Our 12-month guarantee applies to all our work. We are also fully insured.

Can you regrout if a few tiles are loose?

If tiles are loose, something behind them has normally failed. Grout on its own will not fix that and we’ll say so before going ahead.

Is there any odour?

That depends on the sealant. Some products have a noticeable smell, others very little, and any smell fades as they cure.

Regrouting in Bow Brickhill: local notes

Most of the South East has hard water, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

Homes close to Church of All Saints include some older properties, and older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant. If you let a flat or house near Bow Brickhill station, stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right.

How the visit works

Every visit runs the same way: we check the joints, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, do the work and clear up. It usually takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. For a village or hamlet like Bow Brickhill, the journey is planned in advance: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. We bring what the job needs, so it can be finished in one trip where possible.

  1. First, we check for loose or hollow tiles and point out any we find.
  2. We rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care of the tile edges.
  3. Dust and debris are vacuumed out of every joint.
  4. New grout is worked into the joints and cleaned off the tile faces.
  5. We reseal the internal corners and edges with silicone.

How to prepare

  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
  • Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
  • Let us know about parking restrictions

Advice

Leave it or put it right?

New grout smeared over the old doesn’t bond well. A thin skin on top tends to break off. Raking out to a consistent depth gives the new grout something to hold. Older cottages and farmhouses around Bow Brickhill can have timber floors and frames, where water from a failed joint can cause rot if it’s left.

A few things move the cost up or down: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, whether mould needs treating, and whether the work is at height. We take all of that into account in your quote.
