Why act early in Appleton

Cracked grout lets water behind the tiles. Leave it, and the adhesive or the wall behind can suffer, and then you are looking at retiling. Sorting it early keeps the job simple. Around Appleton, older homes often have timber in their floors and frames, where water from a failed joint can cause rot if it’s left.

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one gets its own quote. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all play a part, and we will explain the quote if you ask.

Regrouting for homes and businesses in Appleton

Grout fills the gaps between tiles, while sealant goes where tiles meet a bath, tray or worktop. When grout cracks or washes out, water has a way in behind the tiling. Our job is to rake it out and put new grout in and renew the silicone at the edges. If you’re dealing with splashback grout that has darkened and old grout in a dated colour, we can help, whatever the surface.

Around Appleton, it’s houses and cottages rather than flats, some with bathrooms tucked into older rooms or extensions. The work is the same as anywhere: old material cut out, joints cleaned and a fresh finish laid.

Big or small, you get the same one-year guarantee.

Different surfaces, different methods

Kitchen splashbacks

We can regroute a splashback with the kitchen left in place. The worktop edge is finished with silicone.

Bathroom floors

Floor grout takes foot traffic as well as water. It wears and darkens over time.

How to look after the new joints

Joint life depends on how it’s used and looked after. We suggest:

  • Use a soft brush rather than a wire one
  • Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers on grout
  • Keep an eye on the silicone along the edges
  • Wipe water off the walls when you’re done

A squeegee or cloth over the tiles after use stops soap and water sitting on the grout. Run the extractor fan or open a window to help it dry out.

Tiles can come away if failed grout is left. Once that happens, regrouting won’t fix it, so it’s worth acting early.

Appleton questions

Do you work for landlords with property near Oxford station?

Yes. We work for landlords and agents as well as homeowners. Just phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with the address and what needs doing, and we’ll give you a clear quote.

Will you come out to Appleton?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

How long should I wait before showering?

You’ll get a clear time from us before we go. The grout and sealant both need to cure before the shower is used.

What if some of my tiles are loose?

New grout can’t hold loose tiles in place. We check the tiles first and tell you if any are loose or hollow, so you can decide what to do.

How long does regrouting take?

A typical job takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room, including preparation and clearing up. We’ll confirm how long when we quote.

Can you regrout just the shower?

Yes. A lot of our jobs are only the shower, or the area where the grout has gone.

What information do you need?

The location, the problem and the rough size of the job. If you can, email a few pictures.

Is regrouting a chance to pick a new grout colour?

Yes, regrouting is the time to do it. Mention the colour you have in mind when you call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email.

What we do, step by step

Good joint work is mostly preparation, so that’s where we spend the time. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. All told, the work takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. For a village or hamlet like Appleton, the journey is planned in advance: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. We bring what the job needs, so it can be finished in one trip where possible.

  1. We check the tiles are sound and flag any that are loose or hollow.
  2. The old grout comes out to a consistent depth, without damaging the tiles.
  3. Dust and debris are vacuumed out of every joint.
  4. New grout is worked into the joints and cleaned off the tile faces.
  5. The corners and edges get new silicone, because grout there would crack.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
  • Tell us about any water getting in

Getting a quote

The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Tell us where the job is, what’s wrong and how much there is, and add pictures by email if you can.

Honest limits

New sealant cannot fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. Sealant will not put right:

  • Tiles that have come away from the wall
  • A leaking wet room membrane
  • Leaks from pipes, valves or wastes (a plumber’s job)

If in doubt, ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll say what we think before you book.

What we seal

  • Shower walls
  • Wet rooms
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Tiled floors
  • Bathroom floors

DIY sealant or a professional job?

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.

Do you need regrouting in Appleton?

Hard water and soap leave a film on grout and stick to it. In time the grout under it darkens and breaks down, which is when replacing it makes sense.

Any of these means the joints need attention:

  • Old grout in a dated colour
  • Cracked or crumbling grout lines
  • Shower grout that has worn away
  • Grout that makes sound tiles look old

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Appleton Church of England (A) Primary School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

10 questions to ask before you book

What regrouting looks like in Appleton

Most of the South East has hard water, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings.

If you let a flat or house near Oxford station, stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right. Homes close to Church of St Lawrence include some older properties, and timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.
