New build mastic for St Fergus homes and businesses

New build mastic for homes and businesses in St Fergus

If your new home has a leaking shower seal, open skirting joints or untidy sealant, we can help. While the builder’s snagging or warranty period runs, report it to them first and if that stalls, we can do it. We work on windows & doors, show homes and bathrooms & en suites, and common reasons people get in touch are worktop and upstand sealant coming away and second-fix sealing on new plots.

Around smaller Scottish places like St Fergus, new homes tend to be single plots or small developments. Each needs its sealant and floor joints finished as carefully as on a big site.

Our work is backed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you are.

Questions from St Fergus

Do you cover smaller places like St Fergus?

Yes. St Fergus is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work across all of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

What guarantee comes with new build mastic in St Fergus?

All our work, in St Fergus and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We’re also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.

Can you match the sealant colour to my new kitchen or bathroom?

That depends on what the joint meets: white or clear for most sanitary joints, colours for worktops, floors and frames. We will agree it with you first.

How long will you be here?

That depends on how much there is to do, but as a guide it takes a few hours in a single home. We’ll tell you when we quote.

Do you have insurance?

Yes. Full insurance covers our work.

Can I do it myself?

It depends on the job. Work at height, movement joints, fire-rated gaps and large areas are best left to a professional.

Do you remove the old sealant?

Yes. Sealing over the old bead is the commonest cause of early failure, so we never do it.

Who should fix failed sealant in a new build?

Start with your builder while their snagging or warranty period runs. After that, or if their repair keeps failing, we can do it with our 12-month guarantee.

How to look after the new joints

Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. We recommend:

  • Act quickly if a seal starts to leak
  • Wait for the cure time before using a resealed shower
  • Put sealant faults on your snagging list early
  • Look at the sealant regularly in the first couple of years

Avoid standing on the rim of the bath or the edge of the tray while the sealant cures. Report any movement in a bath or tray.

A failed seal in a new home lets water into joists, plasterboard and ceilings. Catching it early keeps the fix to the sealant and protects the rest of the house.

New build mastic in St Fergus: local notes

St Fergus is close to the coast. New homes near the sea put their outside mastic to work from day one, so any gaps are best picked up early. Timber frame is common in newer Scottish homes, and as the frame dries and settles, skirting and sealant joints can open up.

In and around St Fergus, as anywhere, good new build mastic starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint. Whether the job is in St Fergus itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish.

How we quote for new build mastic

Jobs vary more than people expect. What affects the quote:

  • The number and length of the joints
  • The type of sealant required
  • Mould in or behind the old joints
  • The old material and how stubborn it is

A few things move the cost up or down: the old material and how easily it comes out, any mould to treat, and whether the work is at height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

Asking for a quote

Before you ask for a quote, have a think about:

  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • The problem you’ve noticed
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • How we’d reach the joints

For new build mastic in St Fergus, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk. Tell us what the problem is and where, and we will agree the price before any work begins.

When it is not the sealant

Sealant isn’t the answer to every problem, and we will tell you before any work starts. It will not solve:

  • Broken tiles or a split tray
  • Plumbing faults behind the sealant
  • Movement caused by a poorly fitted tray or bath

If you’re not sure, just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you a straight answer.

What happens if it’s left?

A tube of sealant from the DIY shop won’t fix the cause: dust, no primer and old sealant left in the joint. Cutting out, cleaning and priming are what make the difference. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.

Leaving a failed joint generally makes the job bigger, not smaller, because water and mould keep working on it. If you are not sure whether it needs doing, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you an honest view and a quote.

What you get with us

How the visit works

Before we leave, we go over the finished joints with you and explain the cure time. The work normally takes a few hours in a single home, depending on the size of the job. In smaller Scottish places, parking is generally less of an issue than access and distance. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints.

  1. First we work through your snagging list or plot schedule with you.
  2. We cut out every bit of the failed or messy sealant.
  3. Each joint is cleaned of dust and grit, then primed if required.
  4. We apply a sealant that suits each joint and tool it to a neat finish.
  5. Each area is checked and left with its cure time.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us about any water getting in
  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before
  • Let us know about parking restrictions

Can I do it myself?

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.

What the job involves on each surface

Kitchens

Worktops in new homes can move slightly as the house dries, which opens gaps along the back. We reseal them with a flexible sealant.

Show homes

Show homes need sealant that looks right from day one. Every bead is neat and coloured to suit the room.
