Gutter sealing for Tonwell homes and businesses

Gutter sealing in Tonwell, done properly

For gutter sealant to hold, the joint has to be clean and dry. That is why we take out the old sealant and dirt first, then dry the joint before sealing. We work on gutter joints, soffit joints and roofline trims, and the jobs we see most are dripping gutter ends and cracked sealant along roofline trims.

Older homes in small places like Tonwell may be stone, brick or timber-framed, often with later extensions. Where one material meets another is where water generally gets in.

Every job is covered by our one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Hertfordshire.

Tonwell: your questions answered

Do you work for landlords with property near Ware station?

Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for. You can phone 0345 464 0079 or email us with the details for a clear quote.

Is Tonwell within the area you cover?

Yes, we do. Our work covers London and the South East, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

What information do you need?

Where the job is, what the problem is and roughly how big it is. Photos by email help too.

Are you an approved applicator?

Yes. Mr Mastic is an ARBOMaster approved applicator and we’re fully insured too.

Do you offer different sealant colours?

In most cases you can choose. We’ll tell you which colours the right product comes in.

Is it OK to seal over old sealant?

No. Fresh sealant does not stick to old sealant, and anything trapped underneath, including mould and water, stays there. It all has to come out first.

Do I need to be at home?

Access is agreed with you when the job is booked. For inside work, that normally means someone being in.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes. Tell us about everything you’d like done and we will quote it together.

Why deal with it now?

Replacing fascias because of open joints is usually unnecessary. A neat seal closes the gaps if the boards are sound. Around Tonwell, older homes often have timber in their floors and frames, where water from a failed joint can cause rot if it’s left.

A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting, because water and mould keep working on it. If you’re unsure, ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll give you an honest view and a quote.

Why Tonwell customers choose us

What sealant work can’t fix

We’ll always be straight with you, so here’s what new sealant won’t do:

  • Downpipes that are blocked or broken
  • Guttering that needs replacing
  • Problems with the roof covering

If in doubt, ring 0345 464 0079 or email us and we’ll say what we think before you book.

  • Garage door frames
  • Gutter end caps
  • Soffit joints

What happens on the day

At the end, we look at the finished work together. The work normally takes a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access, depending on the size of the job. Somewhere as small as Tonwell, access is often the only tricky part. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. First we trace the drip and check the gutter isn’t damaged.
  2. The old sealant and dirt are cleaned out of the joint.
  3. We dry the joint so the new sealant can bond.
  4. We seal the joint with a sealant made for gutters.
  5. The gutter is checked and debris around the joints cleared.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Clear the area around the work
  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises

For landlords and businesses

We work for letting agents and landlords as well as homeowners. Sealant work between tenants is a simple way to keep a property in good order.

Water getting past a failed joint can damage the building, which matters even more when someone else lives there. Resealing at the right time is simple maintenance that we can handle for you.

Looking after it afterwards

After the cure time, these simple habits help:

  • Get leaks sealed before the wet months
  • Keep the gutters clear of debris
  • Do not leave a sagging gutter
  • Look along the fascias for open joints

Give the sealant the cure time we tell you and avoid disturbing it.

A leaking stop end is best sealed before the wet months. Water down the wall all winter can cause damp inside.

DIY versus a professional finish

A DIY attempt doesn’t rule out a professional job. We cut it out and start again.

What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions.

What affects the cost of gutter sealing

For a quick quote, just ask. What matters most is:

  • Access and height
  • The number of rooms or windows
  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with

There are no prices on our website, because each job is priced on what it involves. For a quick quote, please call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email.

Helping us quote

What to tell us when you ask for a quote:

  • If someone has resealed it before
  • What’s wrong with the joints now
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email

Getting a quote is simple: let us know what needs doing and where, and roughly how big it is. A few pictures by email make the job easier to understand, and we’ll take it from there.

Tonwell buildings and the weather

With historic houses such as Aston Bury (about 4.6 miles north-west) nearby, there’s older building stock in the area around Tonwell as well as newer homes. Where a home is older, older brick and stone need a sealant that suits them, at the right joint depth. Rainfall in the South East is lower than in much of the UK, but outside sealant still needs a dry, clean surface, so outdoor work is planned around the forecast.

Letting a property close to Ware station? Then leaking gutter joints on a rental are best caught before they stain the walls.
