How we quote for gutter sealing
Call for a quick quote. The main things that affect it are:
- Which sealant suits the joint
- How many areas need sealing
- How easy the joints are to reach
- The number and length of the joints
Rather than a set price list, we price the job in front of us: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. The price is agreed before we begin.
Helping us quote
To make quoting easier, let us know:
- What’s wrong with the joints now
- Roughly how big the job is
- Photos by email, if that is easy
- Any access issues, like height or stairs
Quotes start with a quick conversation. Describe the problem, the location and the size of the job, and we’ll explain how we’d tackle it. Whenever you are ready, ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email.
About our gutter sealing in Rooks Nest
Gutter and fascia replacement is not our trade, and nor is roofing. What sealant does is close joints; it will not fix a broken bracket, a cracked section or a blocked downpipe. If you’re dealing with wet patches on the wall under a gutter joint and quick sealant fixes on gutters that didn’t last, we can help.
Outside joints can only be sealed when they’re dry, so work in Rooks Nest is booked around the forecast. Tell us about access to all sides of the building, including outbuildings and garages.
A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you are not left on your own once the job is done.

Why deal with it now?
A dripping gutter joint keeps wetting the same patch of wall. Over time that can stain brickwork, mark render and encourage damp, so it’s worth sealing early. Around Rooks Nest, older homes often have timber in their floors and frames, where water from a failed joint can cause rot if it’s left.
A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting, because water and mould keep working on it. If you are unsure, ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email for an honest opinion and a quote.
Why us?
- We agree the colour with you first
- A sealant colour to suit the surroundings
- White, clear, grey or coloured to suit, where the product allows
- Anti-fungal silicone where joints get wet
When something else is needed
Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:
- Rotten or damaged fascia boards
- Gutters that have dropped or pulled away
- Roof leaks, slipped tiles or failed flashing (a roofer’s job)
If you are not sure, just phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer.

Should I try it myself first?
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.
Not every job suits DIY: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas need the right product, the right access and the right method.
Walls and rooflines in Rooks Nest
Rooks Nest is part of Stevenage, one of the post-war new towns. Many homes date from the post-war decades and were built in phases, so neighbouring houses often have rooflines and wall joints of the same age, wearing out at the same time. Rainfall in the South East is lower than in much of the UK, though outdoor sealant still has to go onto a dry joint, so the forecast decides the day.
Rented homes near Stevenage station change hands often, and leaking gutter joints on a rental are best caught before they stain the walls. Managing a site like Trotts Hill Primary and Nursery School? Then its movement joints, gutters and trims need looking after like any other building’s. Homes close to Church of Saint Nicholas include some older properties, and older walls, gutters and the joints where extensions meet them need a flexible sealant.

Aftercare tips
To keep the joints looking good and working properly:
- Clean out the gutters once or twice a year
- Deal with a drip before winter
- Look for streaks or damp on the wall below gutters
- Keep downpipes clear
While checking gutters, glance at the fascia joints too. A small split is quicker to put right.
Leaking gutter joints get worse over time. The same spot gets soaked every time it rains, which can lead to staining and damp.

Common questions in Rooks Nest
Should the sealant in an older Rooks Nest home be renewed?
Usually, yes, if it’s cracked, shrunk, mouldy or coming away. New sealant will not stick to old, so the old bead has to come out completely first.
Do you work for landlords with property near Stevenage station?
Yes. We work for landlords and letting agents as well as householders. You can ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with the details for a clear quote.
Do you clean gutters?
We clear debris near the joints, so the sealant can bond. A full gutter clean is a separate job.
Can I add another job to the visit?
Yes. Several rooms, windows or areas can go on one quote.
Can you work on commercial sites?
Yes, regularly. We can plan bigger jobs in stages.
When is the sealant fully cured?
Most sealants are touch-dry well before they’re fully cured. We will tell you how long to leave the joint before we leave.
Do I need to be at home?
For indoor joints, yes, someone needs to let us in. Once we have agreed the job, you do not need to watch us work.
Can new sealant go over the old?
No, it will not last. It may look fine at first, but the new layer lifts away from the old one. The old sealant has to come out completely.
