Redcloak: your questions answered
Do you work for landlords with property near Stonehaven station?
Yes. We work for landlords and agents as well as homeowners, and several properties can be quoted together. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details for a clear quote.
Is gutter sealing in a coastal place like Redcloak any different?
Coastal homes put outside sealant through more weather than inland ones, so preparation and the right sealant matter all the more. Walls facing the sea are normally the first to need attention.
Is there any odour?
It depends on the product. Some products have a noticeable smell, others very little.
Do I need to be at home?
Access is agreed with you when the job is booked. For inside work, that normally means someone being in.
Can you quote for more than one area?
Yes. More than one area can go on one quote.
Can you fit new guttering?
That’s not something we do. We seal joints and replacement is a job for an installer.
What about gutters on a second or third storey?
Low-level work is easiest. For anything higher, we’ll confirm what access is needed once we know more.
What sealant do you use?
Quality sealants from brands including Arbo and Everbuild, chosen to suit the joint. We’ll tell you what we are using and why.
Gutter sealing for homes and businesses in Redcloak
A drip at a gutter joint is easy to ignore, but each shower sends water to the same place. Sealing it is quick while the gutter is still sound. Common call-outs are for drips from gutter joints and end caps and water running down the wall below the gutter, on soffit joints, gutter joints and garage door frames.
Outside joints can only be sealed when they’re dry, so work in Redcloak depends on the weather, and longer journeys are planned in advance. Let us know about access to every wall and roofline.
We stand behind the work with a 12-month guarantee.

Honest limits
To be straight with you, some problems need a different trade:
- Boards that have decayed or split
- Water backing up from a blocked pipe
- Problems with the roof covering
Not sure which it is? You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly.
Joints and surfaces we work on
- Gutter joints
- Roofline trims
- uPVC fascias
- Garage door frames
- Gutter end caps
- Soffit joints
Leave it or put it right?
Leaving a leaking end cap can send water down the wall all winter. It’s a small job to put right before the damage spreads. Around Redcloak, water from a failed joint in an older stone home can soak into timber and plaster.
Doing several joints on one visit usually makes better use of the time than several visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. We’ll send you a clear quote for the lot.

Gutter sealing in Redcloak: local notes
Redcloak is within about 2 miles of the coast, where wind-driven rain is a fact of life and, nearer the shore, so is salt air. Both are hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, which can dry out and crack sooner where a building faces the weather. Private landlords in Scotland must meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping a home wind and watertight, and sound outside sealant is part of that.
If you look after a building such as Mackie Academy, its movement joints, gutters and trims need looking after like any other building’s. Rented homes near Stonehaven station change hands often, and a gutter joint that drips onto the wall can turn into a damp complaint, so it’s worth checking.

How the visit works
There isn’t much for you to do on the day. Point us to the joints and we’ll get on with it. The work itself takes a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access, including the tidy-up. For a place like Redcloak, longer drives are planned in advance. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.
- We look at where the water is coming from and check the gutter is not broken or sagging.
- We clean out the joint and take out the old sealant.
- The joint is dried, because sealant won’t bond to a wet surface.
- An exterior or gutter sealant is applied to the joint.
- We look along the gutter and clear debris around the joints.
Getting ready for the visit
- Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
- Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
- Mention if the joints have been sealed before
How to get a quote
Every job is quoted individually, so start by telling us what you need. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details.
Advice
Keeping the joints in good condition
Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. Our advice:
- Clear leaves and moss from the gutters
- Look for streaks or damp on the wall below gutters
- Get a dropping gutter looked at quickly
- Do not lean ladders against the gutter itself
Make sure downpipes aren’t blocked so the gutter can drain. Blockages push water back along the gutter.
A leaking stop end is best sealed before the wet months. A winter of drips can lead to damp patches inside.

Roofline trims
Trim joints are cut out and resealed suited to the material.
Gutter joints
Joints between gutter lengths are the most common leak point. We clean, dry and reseal them.
Can I do it myself?
The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, and the work is guaranteed for a year.
Not every job suits DIY: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs need the right product, the right access and the right method.
When to call us in Redcloak
End caps get knocked or pushed by water. If the seal fails, water escapes at the end and runs down the wall.
Look out for these signs:
- Damp patches inside below a leaking gutter
- Old gutter sealant that has let go
- Garage door frames letting rain in
- Fascia boards with gaps between them
If you live in an older home near Fetteresso Old Parish Church And Graveyard, the joints between older walls, newer extensions and the roofline need a sealant that can move.
