About our gutter sealing in Poyle

Failed sealant round a garage door frame lets rain blow in. We cut out the old sealant and reseal the frame using a sealant made for outdoor use. We work on uPVC fascias, gutter end caps and roofline trims, and people most often call us about streaks down the brickwork from a leaking joint and drips from gutter joints and end caps.

Older homes in small places like Poyle may be stone, brick or timber-framed, often with later extensions. Where one material meets another is where water generally gets in, and they need the right sealant at the right depth.

Big or small, it’s backed by our one-year guarantee.

To be straight with you, there are a few things sealant will not fix:

  • Gutters that have dropped or pulled away
  • Cracked, split or warped gutter sections
  • Leaks from the roof rather than a joint

Poyle: your questions answered

Can you help a landlord with a rental near Heathrow Terminal 5 Rail station?

Yes. We work for letting agents and landlords as well as homeowners, and several properties can go on one quote. You can call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with the details for a clear quote.

Can you do gutter sealing in Poyle?

Yes. We work across London and the South East, and Poyle is part of that. Just call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with a few details of the job, and we’ll send you a clear quote.

How long should I leave it?

Many sealants skin over quickly but take longer to cure fully. We will give you the cure time for the product we used before we leave.

Are you an approved applicator?

Yes. We hold ARBOMaster approved applicator status, and we are fully insured.

What information do you need?

Just the basics: where it is, what you’ve noticed and how we reach it. After that, simply phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email.

Is it worth trying it myself?

You can, for simple jobs. The key is preparation: remove all the old material and work on a clean, dry joint. If it doesn’t work out, we can redo it.

Will you clear out my gutters?

We clear debris near the joints, so the sealant can bond. Cleaning the whole run is a separate job.

Will sealing fix a sagging gutter?

Not for long. The movement opens the joint again, so the fall and brackets need sorting first.

Quotes for gutter sealing in Poyle

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. The main factors:

  • The product the joint needs
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • How many areas need sealing
  • Working hours on commercial sites

Doing several joints on one visit generally makes better use of the time than several visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. We’ll give you a clear price for the lot.

What we need to know

Photos help, but a description is a good start. Please mention:

  • If someone has resealed it before
  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height

There’s no standard price list. Instead, we give you a clear price for your job. To get started, phone 0345 464 0079 or email us.

Common problems we fix in Poyle

Leaves and moss hold water in the gutter. Standing water finds the weakest joint and drips through.

If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:

  • Drips from gutter joints and end caps
  • Damp patches inside below a leaking gutter
  • Cracked sealant along roofline trims
  • Gaps along fascia and soffit joints

Letting a property close to Heathrow Terminal 5 Rail station? Then leaking gutter joints on a rental are best caught before they stain the walls.

Outside joints around Poyle

London and the South East are among the drier parts of the UK, though outdoor sealant still has to go onto a dry joint, so the forecast decides the day. With historic houses such as Frogmore House (about 3.5 miles west) nearby, there’s older building stock in the area around Poyle as well as newer homes. Where a home is older, older brick and stone need a sealant that suits them, at the right joint depth.

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Pippins School, its movement joints, gutters and trims need looking after like any other building’s. If you live in an older home near Church of St Thomas, old and new materials meet at the roofline and walls, which is where sealant earns its keep.

How the job changes by surface

Gutter end caps

End caps are resealed where they meet the gutter once clean and dry.

uPVC fascias

Gaps in fascias spoil the roofline. Sealing them closes the gap.

Looking after it afterwards

Looking after new joints is easy:

  • Watch the wall under the gutters for staining
  • Check the gutters during heavy rain
  • Check that water runs out of the downpipes
  • Look along the fascias for open joints

Make sure downpipes are not blocked so the gutter can drain. A blocked pipe backs water up to the joints.

If an end cap is dripping, deal with it before winter. Water down the wall all winter can cause damp inside.

Can I do it myself?

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions, then guaranteed for a year.

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

The process

Most of a good job is in the preparation, so that’s where we spend the time. Every joint is cleaned and dried before new material goes in. In total, it normally takes an hour or two for a few joints, longer for a full run. In a small place like Poyle, access is usually the main thing to plan. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. First, we find the drip and check the gutter is not cracked or sagging.
  2. We clean out the joint and take out the old sealant.
  3. The area is dried so the sealant can bond.
  4. Gutter or exterior sealant is applied and finished.
  5. We look along the gutter and clear debris around the joints.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any parking rules near the property
  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
  • Clear items away from the joints we’re working on
