FAQs for Northney

Is Northney within the area you cover?

Yes, Northney is covered. We work across London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Does living near the coast affect gutter sealing in Northney?

Near the coast, wind-driven rain and, nearer the shore, salt air make outside sealant work harder. The right product, a clean joint and the right depth all help it cope.

Do you remove the old sealant?

Yes. We cut out all the old sealant and clean the joint before resealing.

Can you reach high gutters?

Low-level work is easiest. We will confirm the access for higher gutters before we book.

Should I try DIY first?

Some simple jobs can be done by a careful DIYer. The usual mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using too much.

Can you work on commercial sites?

Yes. Hotels, offices and other businesses use us and we are fully insured.

Can tenants book the work?

We can work for tenants, landlords or agents. Get your landlord’s agreement first.

Does someone need to be in?

We need access to the joints, so we will agree that with you when we book. For inside work, that normally means someone being in.

About our gutter sealing in Northney

We don’t replace gutters, fascias or roofs. What sealant does is close joints and it cannot mend broken brackets, split sections or blocked downpipes. If you have water dripping where gutter sections meet and damp patches inside below a leaking gutter, we can help, whatever the surface.

Somewhere as small as Northney, homes and farm buildings often face open ground, so walls and rooflines take the full force of wind and rain. Gutter joints and wall joints there need a sealant that can flex and stay put.

All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months, in Northney and everywhere else we cover.

How we quote for gutter sealing

Call for a quick quote. What matters most is:

  • The old material and how stubborn it is
  • Any mould that needs treating
  • How much there is to do
  • Working hours on commercial sites

The cost depends on the amount of work, how much old material has to come out and how easy the joints are to reach. You will have a clear quote before any work starts, so you know where you stand.

Helping us quote

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. When you ask for a quote, tell us:

  • The rough size of the job
  • What’s wrong with the joints now
  • How we’d reach the joints
  • The type of property

Want a quote for gutter sealing? Please phone 0345 464 0079 or email us and tell us about the job. You will know what we plan to do, and what it will cost, before any work begins.

What the job involves on each surface

Gutter joints

Gutter joints move and sit in water. A gutter sealant made for the job holds best.

Garage door frames

The joint between frame and brickwork moves and weathers. We use a sealant made for outdoor joints.

When to call us in Northney

Water spilling over a blocked gutter is often mistaken for a leak. A blocked downpipe makes water back up, which is why we look before we seal.

Keep an eye out for these signs:

  • Old sealant on roofline trims that has split
  • Damp patches inside below a leaking gutter
  • Fascia boards with gaps between them
  • Garage door frames letting rain in

If you look after a building such as Warblington School, movement joints, cladding joints and gutters on larger buildings need the same care as a house’s.

How the visit works

We keep the work tidy and contained to the area we are working on. Expect the work to take a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access, and we explain the cure time before we leave. Somewhere like Northney needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.

  1. First, we find the drip and check the gutter isn’t cracked or sagging.
  2. We clean out the joint and take out the old sealant.
  3. We make sure the joint is dry before sealing.
  4. Gutter or exterior sealant is applied and finished.
  5. We look along the gutter and clear debris around the joints.

How to prepare

  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
  • Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
  • Mention any parking rules near the property

Can I do it myself?

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.

What gutter sealing looks like in Northney

Northney is within about 1 mile of the coast, and homes near the sea take more wind-driven rain, with salt in the air closer to the shore. That’s hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, especially on the side facing the sea. Rainfall in the South East is lower than in much of the UK, but outside sealant still needs a dry, clean surface, so outdoor work is planned around the forecast.

If you let a flat or house near Warblington station, leaking gutter joints on a rental are best caught before they stain the walls. Homes close to Church of St Peter include some older properties, and an extension built onto an older house moves differently, and the joint between them takes the strain.

When it isn’t the sealant

Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:

  • Downpipes that are blocked or broken
  • Cracked, split or warped gutter sections
  • Fascias that need replacing

If in doubt, ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we will say what we think.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Garage door frames
  • uPVC fascias
  • Roofline trims
  • Gutter end caps
  • Gutter joints
  • Soffit joints

Aftercare tips

A little care helps the new joints last. Our advice:

  • Look for streaks or damp on the wall below gutters
  • Get leaks sealed before the wet months
  • Don’t lean ladders against the gutter itself
  • Look along the fascias for open joints

Leave the new sealant to cure as we advise before poking or cleaning near it.

Leaking gutter joints get worse over time. The same spot gets soaked every time it rains, which can lead to staining and damp.
