Gutter sealing in Marlow

A drip at a gutter joint is easy to ignore, but the water lands on the same spot every time it rains. Sealing it is quick if the gutter is otherwise in good order. We work on garage door frames, uPVC fascias and gutter end caps, and common reasons people get in touch are quick sealant fixes on gutters that didn’t last and old sealant on roofline trims that has split.

Around Marlow, outside jobs take in garage door frames, porches, gutters and trims as well as walls. Where two materials meet, they move differently, and the sealant has to allow for it.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you are not left on your own once the job is done.

Leave it or put it right?

A dripping gutter joint keeps wetting the same patch of wall. Over time that can stain brickwork, mark render and encourage damp so early sealing is worthwhile. Draughts from a gap round a frame, damp under a sill or water behind a bath panel all start small, and they’re far easier to fix early.

A few things move the cost up or down: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, any mould to treat, and whether we need extra access for height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

What the job involves on each surface

Gutter end caps

Stop ends hold back water at the end of a run. When their seal fails, they drip.

uPVC fascias

Open fascia joints look untidy and can let water in. A neat bead closes them up.

Common questions in Marlow

What guarantee comes with gutter sealing in Marlow?

Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever it is. We are also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.

Can you help a landlord with a rental near Marlow station?

Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for, and several properties can be quoted together. Just call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with the address and what needs doing, and we’ll give you a clear quote.

Do you hold any approvals?

Yes. ARBOMaster is the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants, and we’re part of it.

Can new sealant go over the old?

No. New silicone will not bond to old silicone, and anything trapped underneath, including mould and water, stays there. We remove it all first.

Do you install new fascias or gutters?

That’s not something we do. Our work is sealing joints and replacement is a job for an installer.

Is there any odour?

Some sealants have a smell while they cure, but it fades. Ventilation helps.

What information do you need?

Where the job is, what the problem is and roughly how big it is. If you can, email a few photos.

Is sealant enough for a gutter that has dropped?

Not for long. The movement opens the joint again, so the fall and brackets need sorting first.

For landlords and businesses

In hotels, rooms out of use cost money, so the work can be planned room by room. We have worked in hotels as well as homes and businesses.

Letting agents often deal with us directly. Tell us the address, the job and how access works and we will quote.

Outside joints around Marlow

Rainfall in the South East is lower than in much of the UK, but outside sealant still needs a dry, clean surface, so outdoor work is planned around the forecast. Historic houses like Harleyford Manor (about 2 miles south-west) are a reminder that the area around Marlow has older buildings as well as new. Where a home is older, older walls and rooflines need a sealant that moves with them and suits the material.

If you let a flat or house near Marlow station, a gutter joint that drips onto the wall can turn into a damp complaint, so it’s worth checking. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Holy Trinity Church of England (Aided) School, its movement joints, gutters and trims need looking after like any other building’s. For an older house near a landmark such as Congregational Church, the joints between older walls, newer extensions and the roofline need a sealant that can move.

What we do, step by step

We bring everything the job needs with us, so you don’t need to buy or prepare anything. Once we’ve agreed what’s being done, the area is protected and the work begins. Most jobs take a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access. In Marlow, parking is rarely complicated, though it helps to know about driveways or restrictions, and let us know if the work is upstairs, in a flat or up high outside.

  1. We find where the water is coming from and check the gutter is sound.
  2. We remove the old sealant and clean the joint.
  3. The joint is dried before sealing.
  4. We seal the joint with a sealant made for gutters.
  5. The gutter is checked and debris around the joints cleared.

How to prepare

  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
  • Clear items away from the joints we are working on

Related advice

Should I try it myself first?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

What affects the cost of gutter sealing

Call for a quick quote. The main things that affect it are:

  • How many areas need sealing
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • The number and length of the joints
  • Mould in or behind the old joints

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one gets its own quote. Size, access and the product the joint needs all make a difference.

Helping us quote

Photos help, but a description is a good start. Please mention:

  • The rough size of the job
  • What’s wrong with the joints now
  • How we’d reach the joints
  • Whether it has been sealed before

Aftercare tips

Joint life depends on how it’s used and looked after. We suggest:

  • Check fascia and soffit joints for gaps
  • Get a dropping gutter looked at quickly
  • Keep ladders off the guttering
  • Keep the gutters clear of debris

Make sure downpipes are not blocked, so water can get away. A blocked pipe backs water up to the joints.

A leaking garage frame lets water reach stored items. A reseal sorts it while the frame is sound.
