How we quote for gutter sealing

We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:

  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • Access and height
  • The number of rooms or windows
  • The old material and how stubborn it is

There are no prices on our website, because each job is priced on what it involves. For a quick quote, please phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll talk you through it.

Asking for a quote

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you ask for a quote, tell us:

  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • Photos by email, if that is easy
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking

Asking for a quote is easy: let us know what needs doing and where. A few photos by email make the job easier to understand, and we’ll come back to you with a quote.

Gutter sealing in Hook End

Our work covers gutter joints and end caps as well as fascias and soffits, along with roofline trims and garage door frames. It’s joint work, not replacing the gutter. If you have old gutter sealant that has let go and end caps that drip every time it rains, we can help, whatever the surface.

Somewhere as small as Hook End, homes and farm buildings often face open ground, so walls and rooflines take the full force of wind and rain. Joints on those walls need a sealant that moves with the building and stays in place.

All our work is covered by a one-year guarantee.

Different surfaces, different methods

Roofline trims

We reseal trim joints with an exterior sealant.

Soffit joints

Soffit board joints can separate over time. They’re sealed to tidy the line.

What we cannot put right

It helps to know what we can’t do:

  • Fascias that need replacing
  • Blocked downpipes
  • Sagging gutters or broken brackets

If in doubt, call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we will say what we think before booking.

What we seal

  • uPVC fascias
  • Garage door frames
  • Gutter joints
  • Gutter end caps
  • Soffit joints
  • Roofline trims

How the visit works

Before we leave, we go over the finished joints with you and explain the cure time. The work normally takes an hour or two for a few joints, longer for a full run, depending on the amount of work. Somewhere like Hook End needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. We bring what the job needs, so it can be finished in one trip where possible.

  1. First we trace the drip and check the gutter isn’t damaged.
  2. We remove the old sealant and clean the joint.
  3. We dry the joint so the new sealant can bond.
  4. We seal the joint with a sealant made for gutters.
  5. We check the run and clear debris near the joints.

How to prepare

  • Clear the area around the work
  • Mention any tricky access
  • Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts

Why it’s worth doing now in Hook End

Sealing over a dirty, wet joint is a quick fix that rarely lasts but it tends to peel off. Cleaning out and drying the joint first is what makes it last. In a small place like Hook End, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: the amount of work, the access and the products needed, plus any working-time requirements on site. Ask us for a quote and we’ll explain what it covers.

Why us?

  • We agree the colour with you first
  • We leave the area clean and tidy
  • Every job guaranteed for a year
  • Experience in homes, commercial sites and hotels

See our cost guide or our reviews.

Keeping the joints in good condition

Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Have sagging gutters refixed early
  • Glance at the soffit joints now and then
  • Do not lean ladders against the gutter itself
  • Deal with a drip before winter

Leave the new sealant to cure as we advise and avoid disturbing it.

Early sealing limits how much water hits the wall. We will let you know if the gutter needs more than sealant.

What gutter sealing looks like in Hook End

Historic houses like Ingatestone Hall (about 4.1 miles east) are a reminder that the area around Hook End has older buildings as well as new. In older buildings, older walls and rooflines need a sealant that moves with them and suits the material. Rainfall in the South East is lower than in much of the UK, though outdoor sealant still has to go onto a dry joint, so the forecast decides the day.

For landlords with property near Shenfield station, a dripping gutter joint or loose fascia trim is easy to miss until damp shows inside. If you look after a building such as Doddinghurst Infant School, movement joints, cladding joints and gutters on larger buildings need the same care as a house’s. If you live in an older home near Church of All Saints, older walls, gutters and the joints where extensions meet them need a flexible sealant.

DIY versus a professional finish

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

Hook End questions

Is Hook End within the area you cover?

Yes. Hook End is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

I let a flat near Shenfield station. Can you help?

Yes, rental work is part of what we do. You can ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with the address and a few details, and we’ll give you a fixed price before we start.

Is sealant enough for a gutter that has dropped?

It won’t last. The movement opens the joint again, so the fall and brackets need sorting first.

Do you seal gaps in fascias and soffits?

Yes, often alongside gutter joints. The gaps are cleaned and sealed neatly with a suitable exterior sealant.

Are you insured?

Yes. We are fully insured, and we’ve been doing sealant work for more than 20 years.

When is the sealant fully cured?

Cure times vary by product. We tell you how long to leave it before we go.

Will the old sealant be removed?

Yes. Sealing over the old bead is the commonest cause of early failure, so we never do it.

What do you need from me for a quote?

Let us know what needs doing and where. If we need more, we’ll ask.
