Gutter sealing in Haldens, done properly
Many dripping gutters are just a failed joint or end cap. The joint is cleaned, dried and resealed using a gutter sealant. If the gutter itself has failed, we say so. We work on roofline trims, soffit joints and gutter end caps, and the jobs we see most are garage door frames letting rain in and trim joints where the sealant has failed.
In and around Haldens, older properties sit alongside newer ones, each with its own outside joints. Older homes need their gutter and trim joints kept tight, newer ones their movement joints.
A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

Towns and villages near Haldens
What else we do in Haldens
Walls and rooflines in Haldens
Compared with the north and west, the South East gets less rain, yet outdoor joints still have to be sealed dry, so jobs are booked with the weather in mind. With historic houses such as Digswell House (about 0.9 miles north-west) nearby, there’s older building stock in the area around Haldens as well as newer homes. Where a home is older, older brick and stone need a sealant that suits them, at the right joint depth.
Rented homes near Welwyn North station change hands often, and a gutter joint that drips onto the wall can turn into a damp complaint, so it’s worth checking. For an older house near a landmark such as Christ the King, old and new materials meet at the roofline and walls, which is where sealant earns its keep. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Waterside Academy, movement joints, cladding joints and gutters on larger buildings need the same care as a house’s.

Surface by surface
uPVC fascias
Joints between fascia boards can open over time. They’re sealed tidily with a matching sealant where possible.
Gutter joints
Joints between gutter lengths are the most common leak point. They’re cleaned out, dried and resealed.
How it works
When we arrive, we start by going over the job with you, so there are no surprises. Surfaces next to the work are protected before any work begins. Most jobs take a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access. Parking around Haldens is usually easier than in a town centre, but mention any lanes, gates or long drives. For outside work, side access and the height of the joints help us plan.
- We look at where the water is coming from and check the gutter is not broken or sagging.
- We clean out the joint and take out the old sealant.
- We make sure the joint is dry before sealing.
- We seal the joint with a sealant made for gutters and outdoor use.
- The run is checked and any debris near the joints is cleared.
Before we arrive
- For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
- Clear the area around the work
- Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
How to get a quote

Advice
Keeping the joints in good condition
So the new joints stay in good condition:
- Deal with a drip before winter
- Look along the fascias for open joints
- Get a dropping gutter looked at quickly
- Keep ladders off the guttering
If a gutter starts to sag, get the brackets looked at. Movement will pull the joints open again.
A leaking stop end is best sealed before the wet months. Water down the wall all winter can cause damp inside.
Should I try it myself first?
The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.
If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.
Why it’s worth doing now in Haldens
A bead squeezed onto a wet joint might hold for a while, but it soon lets go. Cleaning out and drying the joint first is what makes it last. Homes in smaller places like Haldens can face more weather, and failed outside joints let damp into walls. Indoors, a failed seal lets water into floors and panels as it would anywhere.
The cost depends on the size of the job, how much old material has to come out and how easy the joints are to reach. You will have a clear quote before any work starts.

When something else is needed
In fairness, there are a few things sealant will not fix:
- Gutters that have dropped or pulled away
- Fascias that need replacing
- A gutter length that has split

Questions from Haldens
Can you help a landlord with a rental near Welwyn North station?
Yes, rental work is part of what we do. Just call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and tell us about the property, and we’ll give you a clear quote.
Should the sealant in an older Haldens home be renewed?
Usually, yes, if it’s cracked, shrunk, mouldy or coming away. The key is cutting all the old sealant out, as new sealant won’t bond to it.
Can you quote for more than one area?
Yes. Just list everything you need.
Do you take out the old sealant first?
Always. Sealing over the old bead is the commonest cause of early failure, and it’s something we never do.
Are you an approved applicator?
Yes. Mr Mastic is an ARBOMaster approved applicator.
Can a leaking gutter joint be sealed?
In most cases, yes. A sagging or cracked gutter needs more than sealant and we’ll say so.
Can you fit new guttering?
That is not something we do. We seal joints; replacing gutters and fascias needs a gutter or roofline installer.
Do you guarantee gutter sealing?
Every job comes with our one-year guarantee, and we’re fully insured.
