How we quote for gutter sealing

Jobs vary more than people expect. The main factors:

  • Access and height
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • When we can work, for business premises

No two jobs are quite the same, so we quote each one individually. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all play a part, and we will explain the quote if you ask.

Asking for a quote

Photos help, but a description is a good start. Try to tell us:

  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • Roughly how big the job is
  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height

We quote each job on its own, so the first step is telling us about yours. Simply email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and describe the job and send photos if you have them.

Gutter sealing for homes and businesses in Geirinis

Across Geirinis, we reseal gutter joints, end caps and roofline trims. Single-storey and low gutters are simple to reach and if it’s higher up, let us know and we will confirm what access is needed. Typical jobs include old sealant on roofline trims that has split and rain getting in around a garage door, across gutter joints, roofline trims and garage door frames.

External sealant needs dry surfaces, so outdoor work around Geirinis is planned around the weather. Tell us how to reach each wall, gutter and roofline.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something is not right with it in that time, tell us and we will put it right.

What gutter sealing looks like in Geirinis

Geirinis is within about 1 mile of the coast, and homes near the sea take more wind-driven rain, with salt in the air closer to the shore. Both are hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, which can dry out and crack sooner where a building faces the weather. Private landlords in Scotland must meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping a home wind and watertight, and sound outside sealant is part of that.

In and around Geirinis, as anywhere, good gutter sealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

Different surfaces, different methods

Garage door frames

The joint between frame and brickwork moves and weathers. We use a sealant made for outdoor joints.

Roofline trims

Roofline trims rely on sealant at their joints. Split sealant lets water in.

What sealant work cannot fix

A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:

  • Problems with the roof covering
  • Cracked, split or warped gutter sections
  • Blocked downpipes

If in doubt, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think.

What we seal

  • Gutter end caps
  • Soffit joints
  • Gutter joints
  • uPVC fascias
  • Roofline trims
  • Garage door frames

Should I try it myself first?

If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.

What happens on the day

When we get to you, we check the joints match what you told us. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. After that, the work takes an hour or two for a few joints, longer for a full run. Outside jobs in Geirinis need a dry day, because sealant won’t bond to a wet joint, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Work indoors isn’t affected.

  1. We start by tracing the leak and checking the gutter itself is sound.
  2. We clean out the joint and take out the old sealant.
  3. The area is dried so the sealant can bond.
  4. Gutter or exterior sealant is applied and finished.
  5. We look along the gutter and clear debris around the joints.

Before we arrive

  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before
  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit

Looking after it afterwards

Joint life depends on how it’s used and looked after. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Clear leaves and moss from the gutters
  • Look at the gutters while it’s raining
  • Keep ladders off the guttering
  • Watch the wall under the gutters for staining

Give the sealant the cure time we tell you before poking or cleaning near it.

Rain getting in round a garage door frame can damage what’s stored inside. A reseal sorts it while the frame is sound.

Signs you need gutter sealing in Geirinis

End caps get knocked or pushed by water. If the seal fails, water escapes at the end.

Most people get in touch when they notice one of these:

  • Old gutter sealant that has let go
  • Drips from gutter joints and end caps
  • End caps that drip every time it rains
  • Fascia boards with gaps between them

For jobs in and around Geirinis, choosing the right material for each joint is as important as a tidy finish.

What your quote should include
