Gutter sealing in Boxted Cross

Gutter sealing in Boxted Cross, done properly

Many dripping gutters are just a failed joint or end cap. The joint is cleaned, dried and resealed with a sealant made for guttering. If the gutter itself has failed, we say so. We work on uPVC fascias, gutter end caps and garage door frames, and common reasons people get in touch are dripping gutter ends and old gutter sealant that has let go.

Outside joints can only be sealed when they’re dry, so work in Boxted Cross is booked around the forecast. Tell us about access to all sides of the building, including outbuildings and garages.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If there’s a problem with it, please phone 0345 464 0079 or email us.

The process

On the day, we start by going over the job with you. Surfaces next to the work are protected before we start. Most jobs take anything from an hour or two to a few hours. In a small place like Boxted Cross, access is normally the main thing to plan. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.

  1. We start by tracing the leak and checking the gutter itself is sound.
  2. The joint or trim is cleaned out and old sealant removed.
  3. The area is dried so the sealant can bond.
  4. An exterior or gutter sealant is applied to the joint.
  5. We look along the gutter and clear debris around the joints.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before
  • Clear the area around the work
  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit

Where do you work from?

Our base is in Crawley, and we cover South East England, London and all of Scotland.

Can I choose the sealant colour?

Yes. Sealants come in white, clear, grey and other colours for many products, and we will agree it with you first.

Are you ARBOMaster approved?

Yes. We hold ARBOMaster approved applicator status.

Can new sealant go over the old?

No. New silicone will not bond to old silicone, and anything trapped underneath, including mould and water, stays there. We remove it all first.

Is sealing fascia joints something you do?

Yes. We seal open joints along fascias and soffits in a colour to suit.

What sealant do you use?

Quality sealants from brands including Arbo and Everbuild, chosen to suit the joint. We explain the product when we quote.

Boxted Cross buildings and the weather

London and the South East are among the drier parts of the UK, but outside sealant still needs a dry, clean surface, so outdoor work is planned around the forecast. With historic houses such as Castle House (about 3.4 miles east) nearby, there’s older building stock in the area around Boxted Cross as well as newer homes. In older buildings, older walls and rooflines need a sealant that moves with them and suits the material.

Schools such as Boxted St Peter's Church of England School are buildings too, and its movement joints, gutters and trims need looking after like any other building’s. In the older streets around Church of St Peter, the joints between older walls, newer extensions and the roofline need a sealant that can move. For landlords with property near Colchester station, a gutter joint that drips onto the wall can turn into a damp complaint, so it’s worth checking.

Garage door frames

Failed sealant around a garage door frame lets water in. We cut it out and reseal.

Gutter end caps

We seal end caps from the inside where we can reach, after cleaning and drying.

Honest limits

Sealant isn’t the answer to every problem, and we’ll tell you before we start. It won’t solve:

  • Rotten or damaged fascia boards
  • A gutter length that has split
  • Gutters that have dropped or pulled away

If in doubt, phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Surfaces we seal

  • Roofline trims
  • Garage door frames
  • uPVC fascias
  • Gutter joints
  • Soffit joints
  • Gutter end caps

Should I try it myself first?

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

Why it’s worth doing now in Boxted Cross

You don’t need to replace a garage door because rain gets in round the frame. Resealing the frame joint is often enough. Around Boxted Cross, older homes often have timber in their floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.

Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: the amount of work, the access and the products needed, plus any working-time requirements on site. Call for a quick quote and we will explain what it covers.

Why book with us

  • Anti-fungal sanitary silicone in wet areas
  • 20+ years of sealant experience
  • Neat joints and a tidy finish
  • White, clear, grey or coloured to suit, where the product allows

Take a look at what affects the cost or what customers say.

What affects the cost of gutter sealing

We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:

  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • Whether the work is at height
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with

Every job is a little different, so we quote each one individually. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all make a difference, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.

Asking for a quote

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:

  • What’s wrong with the joints now
  • The type of property
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email

The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Let us know the location, the problem and roughly how many joints, and email photos if that’s easy.
