Gutter sealing for Birsemore homes and businesses

About our gutter sealing in Birsemore

A leaking gutter joint marks the wall and wets the ground underneath. Often a reseal is enough, as long as the gutter is sound. We work on roofline trims, gutter joints and gutter end caps, and people most often call us about fascia boards with gaps between them and old sealant on roofline trims that has split.

Stone walls need a stone-friendly sealant, as acetoxy products can attack some stone. On newer homes, the movement joints and roofline trims are what need watching.

Our work is backed for twelve months.

Your questions about gutter sealing in Birsemore

What guarantee comes with gutter sealing in Birsemore?

All our work, in Birsemore and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We’re fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Will you come out to Birsemore?

Yes, Birsemore is covered. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

How long will you be here?

That depends on how much there is to do, but most jobs take an hour or two for a few joints, longer for a full run. We will tell you when we quote.

Is there any odour?

Possibly a little. Any smell clears as the sealant cures, and ventilation helps.

Which products do you use?

The product depends on the job: sanitary silicone where it gets wet, and sealants suited to movement or weather elsewhere. We use products from Arbo and Everbuild.

Can you work on commercial sites?

Yes. We have worked for hotels, offices and other businesses.

Do you remove the old sealant?

Yes. We cut out all the old sealant and clean the joint before resealing.

Should I try DIY first?

You can, for simple jobs. Preparation is everything: all the old sealant out, and a clean, dry joint. We can always put it right if it fails.

Honest limits

A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:

  • Guttering that needs replacing
  • Blocked downpipes
  • Roof leaks, slipped tiles or failed flashing (a roofer’s job)

Not sure which it is? You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly.

Surfaces we seal

  • Soffit joints
  • Roofline trims
  • Gutter end caps
  • uPVC fascias
  • Garage door frames
  • Gutter joints

Looking after it afterwards

Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. We recommend:

  • Clean out the gutters once or twice a year
  • Do not lean ladders against the gutter itself
  • Check fascia and soffit joints for gaps
  • Look for streaks or damp on the wall below gutters

Keep the gutters clear of leaves and moss, so water drains away past the joints. Standing water strains every seal.

Once roofline sealant splits, water can get behind it. Resealing early protects the boards and the wall below.

When to call us in Birsemore

Roofline sealant ages in sun and rain. It hardens, shrinks and splits over time.

Most people get in touch when they notice one of these:

  • Leaking gutter joints and stop ends
  • Failed sealant on a garage door frame
  • Open joints in fascias and soffits
  • Wet patches on the wall under a gutter joint

Schools such as Aboyne Academy are buildings too, and its movement joints, gutters and trims need looking after like any other building’s.

Before booking anyone

  • Which colour the sealant will be
  • What insurance they hold
  • How much experience the applicator has
  • Whether the sealant suits the joint

Choosing a sealant specialist

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

Businesses can book us for washrooms, kitchens, offices and more. For commercial premises, we can talk through working times when we quote.

Mouldy or split sealant often shows up at the end of a tenancy, and it’s easy to sort out between tenants. We can quote for more than one property at once.

Should I try it myself first?

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone will not bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

Leave it or put it right?

A new garage door isn’t needed for a leaking frame. Resealing the frame joint is often enough, if the frame itself is sound. In a place like Birsemore, small leaks are easy to put off, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.

Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: the amount of work, the access and the products needed, along with when we can work on site. Call for a quick quote and we’ll go through it with you.

Why us?

  • A sealant colour to suit the surroundings
  • We agree the colour with you first
  • Anti-fungal silicone where joints get wet
  • Tidy, careful work

What we do, step by step

We work through the job in order: protect, prepare, seal, tidy. For most jobs that takes anything from an hour or two to a few hours. In smaller Scottish places, parking is generally less of an issue than access and distance. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints, and the visit is planned around that.

  1. First, we find the drip and check the gutter is not cracked or sagging.
  2. The joint or trim is cleaned out and old sealant removed.
  3. The joint is dried, because sealant will not bond to a wet surface.
  4. Gutter or exterior sealant is applied and finished.
  5. The run is checked and any debris near the joints is cleared.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us if parking is tricky
  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
  • Mention any tricky access

Outside joints around Birsemore

Harled (roughcast) walls are common in Scotland, and joints where harling meets other materials need a sealant that can grip and flex. Private landlords in Scotland must meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping a home wind and watertight, and sound outside sealant is part of that.

Homes close to St Machar's Parish Church include some older properties, and old and new materials meet at the roofline and walls, which is where sealant earns its keep.
