How we handle glazing silicone in Nutcombe
Glazing joints need a sealant made for glass. Our applicators use neutral-cure glazing silicone that’s suited to glass and the frame, and we tool it to a neat, even finish. We’re often asked to deal with leaks from the base of a shower screen and failed sealant around rooflight glass, on glass-to-frame joints, glass balustrade bases and glass-to-glass joints.
Around Nutcombe, many homes face open ground, so their windows and doors take the full weather. Exposed frames and sills lose their mastic sooner than sheltered ones.
Big or small, you get the same 12-month guarantee.

Glazing silicone in Nutcombe: local notes
Rainfall in the South East is lower than in much of the UK, yet outdoor joints still have to be sealed dry, so jobs are booked with the weather in mind.
Homes close to Church of St Luke include some older properties, and the joint between an old wall and a newer frame is normally the first place rain gets in. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Amesbury School, larger buildings have plenty of frames, and the mastic around each one ages.

Is Nutcombe within the area you cover?
Yes, we do. Our work covers London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Where do you work from?
Our base is Crawley, with over 20 years’ experience. Our area covers South East England, London and Scotland.
I’m a tenant. Can you help?
Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Landlords are often happy for the work to be arranged.
Can you just put new silicone over the old?
Topping up is a common cause of leaks. We remove the old silicone, clean the joint and reseal.
Can you match the sealant colour?
Yes. Sealants come in white, clear, grey and other colours, and we’ll agree it with you first.
What does glazing silicone cost?
Size, access and the old material all affect the cost. Ask us for a quote.
Are you insured?
Yes, we are fully insured for every job we do.

Businesses can book us for washrooms, kitchens, offices and more. On commercial sites, working times can be discussed when we quote.
Signs you need glazing silicone in Nutcombe
Sealant laid over old sealant does not last. Plenty of leaks come from a quick top-up over the old bead, and water gets between the layers.
Keep an eye out for any of the following:
- Conservatory leaks at frame and glazing joints
- Rooflight joints letting water in
- Cracked silicone between glass panels
- Stained, discoloured glazing silicone
Letting a property close to Haslemere station? Then a shower screen or conservatory joint that leaks is easier to reseal while the property is empty.
Questions to ask before you book

- What happens if the job turns out different

How the visit works
At the end, we look at the finished work together and tell you how long to leave it. The work normally takes a few hours, depending on how many joints need doing, depending on the amount of work. For a village or hamlet like Nutcombe, the journey is planned in advance: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.
- First, we trace the leak and check it’s coming through a sealant joint.
- Old silicone is cut away from the glass and frame without scratching either.
- The glass and frame are cleaned and degreased.
- New glazing silicone goes in and is tooled to a neat finish.
- The finished joints are checked and, where it’s safe, tested with water.
Before we arrive
- Tell us about any water getting in
- Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
- Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive

Honest limits
A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:
- Rotten or badly damaged frames
- Condensation trapped between two panes
- A roof that has moved or dropped
Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 464 0079 or email us and we will tell you honestly.
What we seal
- Rooflights
- Conservatory frames
- Glass-to-glass joints
- Glass balustrade bases
- Shower screens
- Glass-to-frame joints
Keeping the joints in good condition
Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:
- Squeegee the shower screen after each use
- Avoid strong solvents on or near the sealant
- Ventilate the conservatory to cut condensation
- Look over the glazing joints once a year
Don’t use blades or scrapers near the bead when you clean. Stick to a soft cloth.
Shower screen leaks can go unnoticed. Water can soak into the floor or reach the room below before you spot it.
Should I try it myself first?
The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone will not bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.
The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions.
