Glazing silicone near Newhaven

About our glazing silicone in Newhaven

Sealant on glazing does not last for ever. Sun, rain and movement wear it down and cracked joints let water in. Resealing puts that right. If you have split or lifting silicone on glass and water getting into a conservatory at the joints, we can help, whatever the surface.

Plenty of homes in a town like Newhaven have had conservatories, patio doors or new windows added over the years. Every addition brings more joints, each wearing at its own pace. Sills, frame heads and glazing joints are where leaks generally start.

All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months.

Common problems we fix in Newhaven

UV light ages silicone, especially on conservatory roofs. Old silicone hardens, cracks and loses its grip on the glass.

The most common problems we see are:

  • Shower screens leaking along the wall or tray
  • Cracked silicone between glass panels
  • Failed sealant around rooflight glass
  • A quick top-up bead that didn’t last

Schools such as UTC@Harbourside are buildings too, and its window and door frames need their mastic kept sound, just like a home’s.

Choosing a sealant specialist

What the job involves on each surface

Shower screens

A screen’s wall joint and tray joint are where leaks start. We reseal both with anti-fungal silicone.

Conservatory frames

Frame joints face sun and rain all year. Renewed sealant keeps water out.

What affects the cost of glazing silicone

Every job gets its own quote. This is what makes a difference:

  • Whether the work is at height
  • The size of the job
  • Any mould that needs treating
  • The old material and how stubborn it is

A few things move the cost up or down: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, whether mould needs treating, and whether we need extra access for height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

Asking for a quote

Before you ask for a quote, have a think about:

  • The problem you’ve noticed
  • The address or postcode of the job
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved

To get a quote, ring 0345 464 0079 or email us with the location and a short description of the problem. You will have a clear quote before work begins.

Glazing silicone in Newhaven: local notes

Newhaven is close to the coast, where wind-driven rain is a fact of life and, nearer the shore, so is salt air. That is hard on glazing joints and frame seals, especially on the side facing the sea. Rainfall in the South East is lower than in much of the UK, yet outdoor joints still have to be sealed dry, so jobs are booked with the weather in mind.

Letting a property close to Newhaven Town station? Then glazing joints are worth checking at the end of a tenancy, before a small leak grows. For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Michael and All Angels, the windows may be timber, sash or later replacements, and each needs the right sealant against the wall.

Why it’s worth doing now in Newhaven

A new conservatory roof is a big job. Where the water is getting in through sealant, resealing is far simpler. If it’s the roof itself, we will tell you. Black mould and gaps in sealant don’t fix themselves, and in a busy home in Newhaven they get worse with every use. Now is the easy time to put it right.

A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting, because water and mould keep working on it. If you are not sure whether it needs doing, call 0345 464 0079 or email us for an honest opinion and a quote.

How the visit works

Good joint work is mostly preparation, and we do not rush it. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. In total, it generally takes anything from an hour or two to most of a day, depending on the size of the job. A visit in Newhaven needs access to the work and a place to park close by. If the job is outside, mention gates, side access and anything above ground floor.

  1. We look at the glazing and agree which joints need resealing.
  2. We cut away the failed silicone.
  3. We clean and prepare the joint.
  4. New glazing silicone goes in and is finished neatly.
  5. The joints are checked before we leave.

Related advice

Should I try it myself first?

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.

Newhaven questions

Do you cover Newhaven for glazing silicone?

Yes. We work across London and the South East, and Newhaven is part of that. Just phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with a few details of the job, and we’ll give you a clear price.

Does living near the coast affect glazing silicone in Newhaven?

Coastal homes put outside sealant through more weather than inland ones, so preparation and the right sealant matter all the more. Walls facing the sea are usually the first to need attention.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Of course. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

Can you match the sealant colour?

Most of the time, yes. We will explain which colours are available and agree one before we start.

Do you hold any approvals?

Yes. ARBOMaster is the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants, and we are part of it.

Do you work for letting agents?

Yes, often. Several properties can be quoted together, and between tenancies is a good time for the work.

Where is Mr Mastic based?

Our base is Crawley. Our area covers South East England, London and Scotland.

Do I need to be at home?

For indoor joints, yes, someone needs to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.
