Glazing silicone in Denton, done properly
Not every silicone suits glass. We use a neutral-cure glazing silicone, which suits glass and most frame materials, and we tool it to a neat, even finish. We work on rooflights, glass-to-frame joints and shower screens, and common reasons people get in touch are sealant that was laid over old silicone and failed and black or yellowed silicone on glass joints.
Around Denton, conservatories, garden rooms and patio doors are often part of the house. Their glazing joints and frame seals are as much a part of the job as the windows, and any older timber or sash windows need a sealant that suits them.
A 12-month guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

How it works
There’s no need to move everything out, just the space around the work. Everything nearby is protected, and the job takes a few hours, depending on how many joints need doing for a typical job. In a smaller place like Denton, parking is seldom the issue; lanes, gates and long drives are worth mentioning. For outside work, side access and the height of the joints help us plan.
- We find where water is getting in and check whether it’s a sealant joint.
- The old sealant is removed from the glass and frame without scratching them.
- Surfaces are cleaned with a solvent suited to glass and the frame.
- Glazing silicone suited to the joint is applied and tooled.
- We check the joints and, where safe, run water over them.

Should I try it myself first?
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.
Some jobs are best left to a professional: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas need the right product, the right access and the right method.

What else we do in Denton
Surface by surface
Conservatory frames
Frame-to-wall joints on a conservatory move with the weather. They’re resealed with a suitable sealant.
Shower screens
A screen’s wall joint and tray joint are where leaks start. We reseal both with anti-fungal silicone.
Denton homes and the weather
Denton is close to the coast, and homes near the sea take more wind-driven rain, with salt in the air closer to the shore. Both are hard on glazing joints and frame seals, which can dry out and crack sooner where a building faces the weather. London and the South East are among the drier parts of the UK, though outdoor sealant still has to go onto a dry joint, so the forecast decides the day.
Rented homes near Newhaven Town station change hands often, and a shower screen or conservatory joint that leaks is easier to reseal while the property is empty. If you look after a building such as Denton Community Primary School and Nursery, the mastic around its windows and doors needs looking after like any other building’s.

Denton questions
Is glazing silicone in a coastal place like Denton any different?
Near the coast, wind-driven rain and, nearer the shore, salt air make outside sealant work harder. Choosing the right sealant for the frame and wall, laid at the right depth, helps it last.
Will you come out to Denton?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Do I need to be at home?
It depends on the job. Inside work needs someone to give us access, and for outside work we’ll agree access with you when we book.
What information do you need?
A short description and the location. We will ask anything else we need to know.
Is it enough to run a bead over the old sealant?
It does not last. The new bead cannot grip the old one so we take it all out and start clean.
How long before the joint can be used?
Cure times vary by product. We tell you how long to leave it before we go.
I’m a tenant. Can you help?
Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Many landlords are glad to have it sorted.
Do you hold any approvals?
Yes. ARBOMaster is the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants, and we’re part of it.
Do you need glazing silicone in Denton?
Using a sealant not made for glass causes many failures. Some products don’t bond well to glass and vinegar-smelling acetoxy silicone can attack some metals.
People usually contact us when they notice something like this:
- Failed sealant around rooflight glass
- Glazing silicone that has cracked or come away
- Drips on the inside of a conservatory window
- Water getting into a conservatory at the joints
If you live in an older home near Church of St Leonard, the windows may be timber, sash or later replacements, and each needs the right sealant against the wall.
What to look for in a quote
- Whether they’re fully insured
- Who turns up on the day
- What the cure time is
- Whether all the old sealant comes out first
Why deal with it now?
A quick bead over the old sealant might stop a drip for a while, but new silicone will not bond to old, and the leak usually returns. A proper reseal is the lasting answer. In a smaller place like Denton, wherever a wall is exposed, a failed outside joint is a real source of damp. Indoors, a failed seal lets water into floors and panels as it would anywhere.
What you pay reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why we ask a few questions first.

What sealant work can’t fix
In fairness, there are a few things sealant will not fix:
- Leaks from the roof covering or flashing (a roofer’s job)
- Rotten or badly damaged frames
- Glass that needs replacing
If you’re not sure, just call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer.
What we seal
- Glass-to-glass joints
- Shower screens
- Conservatory frames
- Rooflights
- Glass-to-frame joints
- Glass balustrade bases
Keeping the joints in good condition
A little care helps the new joints last. Our advice:
- Avoid strong solvents on or near the sealant
- Avoid scraping close to the bead
- Keep conservatory gutters clear of leaves
- Stick to mild cleaners on glass
On shower screens, wipe or squeegee after use and keep the room ventilated. That slows mould growth on the bead.
Shower screen leaks can go unnoticed. It can damage the floor or the ceiling below long before you see it.
