Glazing silicone in Great Berry

How the visit works

All our tools and materials come with us in the van. After a quick look at the joints together, the area is protected and the work begins. It normally takes a few hours, depending on how many joints need doing. In a smaller place like Great Berry, parking is seldom the issue; lanes, gates and long drives are worth mentioning. For outside work, side access and the height of the joints help us plan.

  1. First, we check where the water gets in.
  2. We remove the old sealant carefully.
  3. We clean the glass and frame so the new silicone bonds.
  4. A neutral-cure glazing silicone is applied and tooled.
  5. Each joint is checked and, where possible, water-tested.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us about any water getting in
  • Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can

Advice

About our glazing silicone in Great Berry

Conservatory leaks often start at a sealant joint, where glass meets frame or frame meets wall. We trace the leak to the joint and reseal it, and if it’s something sealant can’t fix, we will tell you. Typical jobs include leaks from the base of a shower screen and sealant that was laid over old silicone and failed, on rooflights, glass balustrade bases and shower screens.

In smaller places like Great Berry, homes range from older cottages to newer houses, with windows to match: timber, uPVC and aluminium. The right sealant depends on the frame and on what it sits in.

Each job carries a 12-month guarantee, large or small.

Questions from Great Berry

Is Great Berry in your area for glazing silicone?

Yes, Great Berry is within the area we cover. We work across London and the South East. Just ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with a few details of the job, and we will give you a clear price.

Do you cover smaller places like Great Berry?

Yes. Great Berry is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

How long should I leave it?

Most sealants are touch-dry well before they’re fully cured. We will give you the cure time for the product we used before we leave.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

Just the basics: the address or postcode, what’s wrong and any access issues. After that, simply ring 0345 464 0079 or email us.

Can you quote for more than one area?

Yes, and it often makes sense. Doing several areas at once is usually more efficient, so mention them when you ask for a quote.

What guarantee do I get?

What we can’t put right

We won’t take on work that won’t last, so here’s what sealant can’t put right:

  • Frames that have decayed or split
  • Condensation trapped between two panes
  • Failed flashing around a conservatory

If in doubt, call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll say what we think.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Glass-to-glass joints
  • Rooflights
  • Conservatory frames

Frames and glazing around Great Berry

Rainfall in the South East is lower than in much of the UK, but outside sealant still needs a dry, clean surface, so outdoor work is planned around the forecast.

Managing a site like Great Berry Primary School? Then larger buildings have plenty of frames, and the mastic around each one ages. If you let a flat or house near Laindon station, leaking glazing joints, shower screens or conservatory seals are worth sorting between tenancies. If you live in an older home near St John, the joint between an old wall and a newer frame is normally the first place rain gets in.

Rooflights

Rooflight leaks can come from the sealant or the roof. We check which it is.

Conservatory frames

The joints where the conservatory meets the house take a lot of movement. They’re resealed with a suitable sealant.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

A DIY attempt doesn’t rule out a professional job. We cut it out and start again, so just mention it when you contact us.

  • Working hours on commercial sites
  • The product the joint needs

What we need to know

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:

  • If someone has resealed it before

  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • The rough size of the job

Aftercare tips

A little care helps the new joints last. Our advice:

  • Run a squeegee over the glass when you are done
  • Check the silicone on glass every year or so
  • Ventilate the conservatory to cut condensation
  • Avoid scraping close to the bead

Squeegee a shower screen after each shower and let the room air. That slows mould growth on the bead.

Conservatory leaks rarely stay small. Water travels along the frame and into the wall so it’s best dealt with straight away.
