Crutherland Glazing Silicone

Glazing joints in Crutherland need attention? We remove the old material, prepare the joints and seal them properly.

Aftercare tips

Looking after new joints is easy:

  • Keep scrapers and blades away from the silicone
  • Check the silicone on glass every year or so
  • Check the gutters above the glazing for debris
  • Clean glass with a mild cleaner and a soft cloth

Squeegee a shower screen after each shower and let the room air. It helps stop mould getting into the silicone.

Drips or damp near a glazing joint shouldn’t be ignored. The cause may be sealant or another part, and we’ll tell you which.

Glazing silicone in Crutherland, done properly

Sealant on glazing doesn’t last for ever. Weather and movement take their toll and cracked joints let water in. Resealing puts that right. If you have cracked silicone between glass panels and drips on the inside of a conservatory window, we can help, on glass-to-frame joints, glass-to-glass joints and rooflights alike.

Older stone-built homes in Scotland often have sash and case or timber windows set in stone. The sealant has to suit the stone, which rules out acetoxy silicones that can mark or attack it.

All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you are.

What we can’t put right

New sealant cannot fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It won’t solve:

  • A roof that has moved or dropped
  • Frames that have decayed or split
  • Cracked or broken glass

If you’re not sure, just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you a straight answer.

Surfaces we seal

  • Conservatory frames
  • Shower screens
  • Rooflights
  • Glass-to-glass joints
  • Glass-to-frame joints
  • Glass balustrade bases

Can I do it myself?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

Some jobs are best left to a professional: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas call for the right materials, safe access and experience.

What affects the cost of glazing silicone

For a quick quote, just ask. The main things that affect it are:

  • Access and height
  • The product the joint needs
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove

Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: the amount of work, the access and the products needed. Call for a quick quote and we will explain what it covers.

Asking for a quote

There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can tell us:

  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
  • Where the property is
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work

Will you come out to Crutherland?

Yes, we do. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Will the old sealant be removed?

Yes. Sealing over the old bead is the commonest cause of early failure, so we never do it.

Is the work guaranteed?

There’s a 12-month guarantee on every job.

Where is Mr Mastic based?

We work from Crawley. Our applicators cover Crutherland.

Can landlords and businesses book you?

Yes. We work in homes, commercial premises and hotels, and we’re fully insured.

What do you need from me for a quote?

The location, the problem and the rough size of the job. Photos by email help too.

Can you quote for more than one area?

Yes. More than one area can go on one quote.

What happens if it’s left?

Topping up old silicone can look like a fix, but new silicone won’t bond to old, and the leak generally returns. A proper reseal is the lasting answer. Around Crutherland, water from a failed joint in an older stone home can soak into timber and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the sealant.

Doing several joints on one visit is usually more efficient than separate visits, so it’s worth mentioning everything you’d like done. We’ll give you a clear quote for the lot.

What you get with us

  • Every job guaranteed for a year
  • White, clear, grey or coloured to suit, where the product allows
  • We agree the colour with you first
  • Sealant colour chosen to suit

Windows and doors in Crutherland

Crutherland is in the west of Scotland, which is wetter than the east, which means glazing joints and frame seals has to cope with a lot of rain. Private landlords in Scotland must meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping a home wind and watertight, and sound outside sealant is part of that.

If you let a flat or house near East Kilbride station, leaking glazing joints, shower screens or conservatory seals are worth sorting between tenancies. Schools such as Mount Cameron Primary School are buildings too, and the mastic around its windows and doors needs looking after like any other building’s.

What happens on the day

Most of a good job is in the preparation, so that’s where we spend the time. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. In total, it usually takes anything from an hour or two to most of a day, depending on the size of the job. Somewhere like Crutherland may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.

  1. First, we check where the water gets in.
  2. We remove the old sealant carefully.
  3. We clean the glass and frame so the new silicone bonds.
  4. We lay the new bead and tool it smooth.
  5. We check the finished joints and test with water where it’s safe.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know about parking restrictions
  • Keep children and pets away from the work area
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
