Fire rated sealant in Nether Wallop, done properly
Fire-rated sealant closes the gaps around pipes, cables and frames where they pass through a fire-resisting wall or floor. Each gap is sealed to the product maker’s tested detail for its size and substrate, and we can record what went where. Typical jobs include open joints along the top of partitions and seals cut through by electricians, plumbers or data installers, across service penetrations, flats & HMOs and pipe & cable gaps.
Somewhere as small as Nether Wallop, commercial jobs tend to be pubs, holiday lets, farm buildings or halls rather than offices. They all have washrooms, kitchens and service openings that need the right sealant.
The work is covered for a year after we finish. If there’s a problem with it, please call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.

Keeping the joints in good condition
No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. Our tips:
- Store the list of sealed gaps with your building paperwork
- Never patch a fire seal with standard sealant
- Make resealing part of every contractor’s brief
- Plan fire stopping into any work that goes through walls or floors
Leave the sealant to cure fully before painting near it. Some fire-rated sealants can be painted and some cannot.
It’s easiest to seal gaps while they’re few and easy to reach. Over time, more work adds more holes and the list grows.
Why deal with it now?
An unsealed gap lets smoke and fire get round a wall that was built to hold them back. Sealing it properly restores what the wall was there to do, and the sealing itself is often a contained piece of work. In a small place like Nether Wallop, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.
Some things make a job bigger or smaller: the old material and how easily it comes out, any mould to treat, and whether the work is at height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

Nether Wallop questions
I let a flat near Grateley station. Can you help?
Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for. Just ring 0345 464 0079 or email us with the address and what needs doing, and we will give you a clear quote.
Is Nether Wallop within the area you cover?
Yes, Nether Wallop is covered. Our work covers London and the South East, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
Can you give us a record of the work?
Yes. We record the locations we have sealed and the products used for your files.
Is there any odour?
Sometimes, a little. It fades as the sealant cures.
What fire rating will the seal have?
That isn’t something we state or certify. The requirement comes from your assessor, designer or building control, and we fit a product whose tested details meet it.
Do I need to be at home?
For indoor joints, yes, someone needs to let us in. Once we have agreed the job, you do not need to watch us work.
Do you do fire sealant around door frames?
Yes. We seal the gap between the frame and the wall with a suitable fire-rated product. The door leaf and its hardware need a door specialist.
Where do you work from?
We’re based in Crawley, and we cover South East England, London and all of Scotland.

What fire rated sealant looks like in Nether Wallop
In England, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires a fire risk assessment for workplaces and for the common parts of blocks of flats, and gaps around services are often picked up there. We work to the specification you’re given, installing the product to its tested details.
Schools such as Wallop Primary School are buildings too, and fire-stopping around service openings should be restored whenever new services go in. Rented homes near Grateley station change hands often, and any gap left by new services in shared walls should be closed with a fire-rated product. For buildings such as Church of St Andrew, gaps around pipes and cables are worth checking after any building work there.

What sealant work cannot fix
We won’t take on work that will not last, so here’s what sealant can’t put right:
- Construction that doesn’t provide fire resistance on its own
- Sign-off of the building, which sits with building control or your assessor
- Doors that are not fire doors in the first place
If you’re not sure, just phone 0345 464 0079 or email us and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Can I do it myself?
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.
Not every job suits DIY: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas call for the right materials, safe access and experience.
How the job changes by surface
Plasterboard walls
Holes in plasterboard are often cut roughly for services. Gaps that are too big for sealant alone need a different detail.
Service penetrations
New gaps tend to show up where services have been added. Old or unsuitable filler comes out before the right sealant goes in over any backing the detail calls for.
How the visit works
There’s no need to move everything out, only the area right around the joints. Everything nearby is protected, and the work takes from a few hours to a few days, depending on the number of gaps and the access for a typical job. Somewhere like Nether Wallop needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.
- Access to each area is agreed so the work can run in order.
- We take out any damaged or unsuitable sealant.
- Dust and loose debris are cleaned from each gap.
- We apply and tool the sealant to the product’s tested detail.
- Locations and products are written up and any gaps unsuitable for sealant are flagged.
Before we arrive
- Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
- For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
- On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
