What affects the quote in Nuffield
The price is agreed before any work begins. It’s based on:
- The product the joint needs
- How many areas need sealing
- Any mould that needs treating
- Whether the work is at height
Every job is a little different, so we quote each one individually. Size, access and the product the joint needs all make a difference, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.
Asking for a quote
When you contact us, it’s useful to know:
- The rough size of the job
- If someone has resealed it before
- Where the job is, and your postcode
- Whether it’s a home or a business
A good description makes for an accurate quote. Tell us where the job is, what’s wrong and how much there is, and email photos if that’s easy.
External mastic in Nuffield, done properly
Ground-floor and low-level joints are straightforward to reach. Where joints are higher up, tell us about the building when you get in touch and we’ll confirm what’s needed to reach them safely. Common call-outs are for hard, crazed mastic that has stopped moving and damp patches traced to an open external joint, on render & cladding joints, joints between brick and frames and copings & trims.
Outside joints can only be sealed when they’re dry, so work in Nuffield is booked around the forecast. Tell us about access to all sides of the building, including outbuildings and garages.

When something else is needed
To be straight with you, there are a few things sealant will not fix:
- Cracks in the bricks or render themselves, away from the joints
- Subsidence or other structural problems
- Render that’s blown, hollow or coming away
Not sure which it is? You can phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will tell you honestly before booking.

How the visit works
There’s no need to move everything out before we come, only the area right around the joints. Everything nearby is protected, and the job takes anything from a few hours to several days, depending on the building for a typical job. For a village or hamlet like Nuffield, the journey is planned in advance: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.
- First, the joints are inspected and the access agreed.
- Every bit of old sealant and any mortar or debris is cut out.
- Joint faces are cleaned back and primed if the sealant needs it.
- Backing rod sized to the joint goes in to set the depth.
- We apply the sealant, tool it and check the whole run.
Before we arrive
- Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
- Let us know about parking restrictions
- On commercial sites, let us know about site rules

Should I try it myself first?
Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.
Signs you need external mastic in Nuffield
Weeds, moss and debris in a joint are a sign the sealant has gone. Dirt and roots then trap moisture in the joint and speed up the damage.
Keep an eye out for any of the following:
- Panel joints letting water in
- Damp patches traced to an open external joint
- Hard, crazed mastic that has stopped moving
- Movement joints filled with mortar instead of sealant
Homes close to Church of the Holy Trinity include some older properties, and older walls, gutters and the joints where extensions meet them need a flexible sealant.
What your quote should include
- What happens if the job turns out different
- What insurance they hold
- Who turns up on the day
- Whether VAT is included

Questions from Nuffield
Will you come out to Nuffield?
Yes, we do. Our work covers London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
Can you do external mastic in Nuffield?
Yes, Nuffield is within the area we cover. We work across London and the South East. You can phone 0345 464 0079 or email us and tell us what needs doing.
Where do you work from?
We work from Crawley. Our applicators cover Nuffield.
Will the old sealant be removed?
Yes, always, and completely. New sealant will not bond properly to old, so the joint is cleaned back first.
Can you quote for more than one area?
Of course. Combining jobs makes good use of the visit, so mention them when you ask for a quote.
How long will you be here?
That depends on how much there is to do, but as a guide it takes a few hours for a handful of joints, longer for a whole elevation. We will tell you when we quote.
How do you reach high-level joints?
It depends on the building. We work on joints that can be reached safely. Give us some details and we’ll confirm the access.
Can I do it myself?
It depends on the job. Work at height, movement joints, fire-rated gaps and large areas are best left to a professional.
Nuffield buildings and the weather
With historic houses such as Greys Court (about 4.2 miles south-east) nearby, there’s older building stock in the area around Nuffield as well as newer homes. In older buildings, older brick and stone need a sealant that suits them, at the right joint depth. Rainfall in the South East is lower than in much of the UK, yet outdoor joints still have to be sealed dry, so jobs are booked with the weather in mind.

How to look after the new joints
So the new joints stay in good condition:
- Keep high-pressure jets off the joints
- Point out the joints to other trades
- Get split or bare joints resealed while the damage is small
- Look over the joints every year, ideally after winter
If you have more work done on the wall, such as new render, cladding or an opening, show the contractor the movement joints. They should be kept open and resealed, not filled.
Water getting behind cladding or render can go unnoticed for a long time. By the time there’s a damp patch, the damage can be well established so early resealing is worth it.
